Retiring a wingnut hyper 3.0, used the mule before and the wife rates her zealot 16. What else is worth considering?

Big fan of Ospreys. Loads of size options to find the right one for you and very comfortable in use. I use a Talon and the wife has a Raven

Interesting to see the osprey getting so much love. Used to be the wingnut was the popular choice on here.

Some of those shimano chest harness style bags on sport pursuit at the moment. Never tried one but look quite good.

I have an osprey viper 13 but wouldnt.mind trying a chest harness sort for a bit more stability.

I really like my Osprey, Raptor 10. Well made and well thought out, nice and stable when it gets rough as well.

Been very impressed with my Osprey Raptor 10, works a treat, comfortable even when full, 3 litres of water is quite heavy, but the straps were still comfortable. Doesn't move around when the going gets rough, and the magnet mounted mouth piece is spot on, almost puts itself away.

How do people find the osprey bite valve compared to camelbak? Not used it in anger but seems to offer less flow when I'm cleaning them.

Prefer my Evoc 10 CC to my Dakine Drafter. Both awesome tho.

Had noticed it during cleaning, but in use it's not a problem.

I've been using a Dakine Nomad for a few years now and really like it. I tried an Evoc Enduro FR with a back protector but it wasn't for me.

One that attaches to the bike avoiding sweaty back, back ache etc you can even get them bug enough to carry around all the unnecessary stuff mist riders seem to carry in local rides*

*Unless you are WHWing or similar, then get a bigger one

A good quality ruck sack will do that too, without impacting on bike handling.

I really like Dakine bags. Well built, comfy, the hydrapac bladder has good aftersales support.

Wearing a rucksack makes you less sweaty than no pack at all? Hmmmm...

I've got an Osprey Syncro 10 and it's pretty good. The waist strap is is a little weedy, but it works OK.

Have previously used Vaude bags due to their 'suspended back' design, but Osprey has something similar and the Vaude bags have very little in the way of dividers so everything ends up in a jumbled mess.

I also looked at an Ergon bag, but that was a bit more pricey.

I really like my Osprey Talon. It's done some serious service but is still going strong. It's been through the washing machine twice and cleans up quite nicely. No sweaty back problems either. You don't need to use an Osprey bladder with it. I use a Source one.

I have an Osprey Talon. It is good, but you can't beat the Camelback bite-valve.

Picked up a camelbak charge 10 in Halfords for £40. Very impressed, the hip reservoir is by far the most comfy hydration pack I've had, ample room for spares and a coat.

Big fan of my Mule NV, if the last couple of camelbacks is anything to go by then I won't need to worry about what bag for at least 5 years

Can't really fault my EvoC 16cc jobbie. Comfy, carries enough stuff for me and is well organised.

Ive got a Shimano Unzen pack and its been superb. Decent size and not to big and bulky. The crossover chest strap takes about 5 seconds to get used to. Rode all through an aussie summer and it was great no sweaty back as it channels the air around it. loads of tool storage and fleece lined pockets for your phone etc.

Another one for Osprey packs - just so well thought out. I had similar concerns re. bite valve after coming from Camelbacks but its fine. Really. I wouldn't go back...

After riding with Wingnuts for quite a while, I find 'normal' bags sit too high (unsurprisingly). Personally I'd be looking at another Wingnut or a Camelbak Charge.

The other option is nothing, or something like a Dakine bum bag (and a water bottle)?

Failing all that, my personal favourite non-Wingnuts are Deuter bags - brilliant pieces of functional design (or were, 10 years ago). Other half's Osprey looks nice and I quite liked my Dakine Drafter, but there's lots of faffy extras going on with them - great if you like that, adds extra cost if you don't.

Edit: I should add, the other half's Osprey res came through punctured, and we swapped it out for a Hydrapak (what I use) - the Osprey res with a hard back also rubbed on her spine. But speaking of Hydrapak, they've up'd their game in recent years - well worth a look. Arguably the best res out there too.

I have just ordered a USWE F3 Enduro as I was looking for something a little smaller than my Camelbak Mule, which was giving me back ache.

Will report back.
