Hi

I took delivery of a new Orbea Rise M10 yesterday and unpacked it to find significant cosmetic damage to the frame.

It’s difficult to say what’s caused it as the rest of the bike is perfect. It looks as if it’s a manufacturing defect and some of the frame painting has not been finished properly.

It is on about 8 different locations on the frame.

While I wait for the retailer to come back online (Tuesday) I thought I’d ask if this has happened to anyone else and what the resolution was.

Thanks

Could do with images, but I think the “blemishes” are normal and actually declared in the frame spec.  I don’t know where, but I’m sure I’ve read that the carbon layup is viable through the clear coat.

I bought an orbea wild m10. The finish is raw titanium and you can see the 'marks' which I quite like.  It's supposed to be like this as there's a clear lacquer over the raw frame.

So I'm presuming you have a raw carbon finish.

Did you see it in the showroom before buying?

I’ve added some photos. They are more than blemishes, I’m sure you’ll agree?

That is what raw carbon looks like, well they vary depending on the weave and layup the top coat looks fine.
Google “raw carbon” I think it looks great.

Yeah, that’s the carbon weave showing through a translucent colour paint.  Will show through more when the light catches it at the right angle.  What is the ‘finish’ of the frame listed as?

That's just what raw UD carbon looks like... Seen numerous people whinge about this in the Orbea Facebook groups now, only to get shot down in flames (the joys of social media eh! 😂)

More aimed at the OP, does he know that he’s purchased a finish called ‘raw’, if the answer is yes I’m not sure what the expectation of the finish was.

I personally much prefer this raw carbon finish to the uniform weave of the early Hope frames.

Thanks so much everyone. It was advertised as raw carbon. Now that I know, I’ll grow to love it I’m sure 😀.

Cheers 👍

Yep, to paraphrase Run DMC, it's like that, it's just the way it is.

I have a raw carbon epic, and think the finish is rather lovely. Suspect you'll not get much change out of the retailer OP.

Sounds like when some companies used to paint Ti frames , I could never see the point.

Yep that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be

As you bike gets older you do wonder what’s a scratch and what’s ‘normal’ but I like it on mine

Speaking as a fellow owner of a raw carbon frame, I can recommend this stuff to help you really embrace the look:

Frame polish

Raw Carbon is definitely not the finish for those of us with OCD. 🤣

Because getting a good finish on Ti required a lot of effort (polishing) or some sort of media blasting (a pain in the arse to get it remotely uniform). Paint is relatively easy.
