Looks pretty decent to me, not far from a normal Orange. Bit spendy mind, as usual.
not far from a normal Orange.
And that's a good thing? 😉
Looks great, they've nailed the geometry.
Would absolutely have one, if someone else was paying.
For optimum battery charging we have designed the battery to be removed and optimally charged at room temperature between 10° and 20°C.
Stored batteries in a cool, indoor location with stable temperature between approximately 10° to 20°C
Do NOT leave the removed battery exposed to direct sunlight or rain or in an environment likely to drop below 10° C.
IMPORTANT! Avoid freezing temperatures.
How exactly does the battery get removed? Doesn't look like there's an obvious quick removal. There's also a charging port on the top tube.
That looks great; certainly better than some of Orange's recent bikes.
It quite appealed until I saw the price... almost £8k and it's still got SLX in the spec :-0
most likely involves dropping the motor, it’s a faff, but allows for much lighter down tube when it doesn’t need a big removable section
a big faff that it implies should be done every ride unless you are lucky enough to have a heated and electrified garage to store the bike in.
At least you can use the money from gym membership. Picking it up will be enough of a workout

Not just implies, they're extraordinarily upfront about it.
I'd also go so fast as to say my house possibly wouldn't tick that temperature range, let alone my garage.

"Designed" is doing some heavy lifting there - it's a Bosch PowerTube 400

The battery is designed to be removable but in honesty I think that's just poor wording. I'm pretty sure that's meant to read...
For optimum battery charging we have designed the frame to allow the battery to be easily removed
I'll wager it's still not that easy and needs the bike to be flipped or lain down.
I guess the geometry is decent & it’s got the best brand of motor & battery on the market?
Still looks like a GCSE project though. And for £8k they cheaped out on the controller 🤦♂️
Mmmmmmmmmm, that could be extremely irritating. I have a soft spot for Orange (still running my 2006 5 and have a 2010 5 as well), especially if the battery is vaguely easily removable. Irritating as for me as I’m now ‘e’d up and want to go semi fat, both the levo sl and soon to be Whyte lyte look great but fixed batteries, if the Orange battery is removable ( at a hotel etc) it wins there but loses as it’s 2 to 3 kg over the other bikes weight, the Ktm macina scarp sx has both light weight and removable battery (and light weight) but I’m wary about the ongoing spares and support situation as they don’t seem to have much of a Uk presence.
Dear Orange, could you make it xc, 40mm less travel is fine, removable battery, 16.5kgish. Thank you
Towzer - give them a bell and ask, they pick up the phone and are happy to talk stuff through IME
Looks good to me, but then I've always liked oranges and their approach definitely works best with big hoofin bikes. Their ebikes have always managed to look basically right, to me, chunky and industrial sure but then all ebikes look chunky, at least oranges are supposed to look chunky and industrial. Nice to see brands reducing anti-squat too after a few years of absolute mania in that area.
OTOH I'm not that trustful of their designs in recent years, too many of the bikes have had too many different failures, pretty much since they started really trying to shave grams and get smarter- and the more complex the fabrication and the more restrictions on shapes they have, the more likely that probably gets? Like, they struggle to make a normal Stage that stays in one piece even before having a bloody great battery in it.
(aside but I do love the sheer balls of saying on the Phase Factory that the keyed battery access is better because there's no bolts to undo, while on this one bolts are better because there's no key to lose. Especially since they've literally copy-and-pasted that part and just changed the bit about keys)
Their bikes looked like ebikes before ebikes were invented
