With the weather turning, and with a real apathy around getting out on the MTB, I'm thinking a pair of nice autumn riding trousers might help me get out on the bike more !

Previous purchases in years past have generally been tried and returned, or sold on after a few rides, so my criteria is for a not too baggy fit, waist 35, inside leg 30, not flappy, and enough waist tightening/grippy-ness  that they wont slide down too much with bibs under.  Not too concerned on budget, if they fit they will be worth it..

don't 7mesh do trimmable hems on most of their trousers/tights?

Have you tried the Decathlon Rockriders (the grey ones)?

That could be me writing the OP! <br />Conclusion I’ve came to is Nukeproof Blackline. I’m pretty much the same size and have the large. I see they do two leg lengths now, so obviously stick with the regular. I use them all year round, except the wettest days. <br /><br />

Have a pair of Rapha trail pants and they are a touch longer, but still fine for my 30” legs, again in size large. <br /><br />

Tempted by 7mesh but nowhere remotely local to try them. Hate doing the mail order shuffle. Expensive too, although 20% off with Downtime podcast code.

Madison Flux are still cheap as cheaps at Freewheel - https://www.freewheel.co.uk/madison-flux-men-s-trousers-varmcl20w04

They're not sold as short, but seem to come up a little short by my reckoning. i.e. They're fine on the bike, but I wouldn't wear any other trouser that short, if that makes sense?

Freewheel returns are really easy and pre-paid.

LOL. I have Madison lycra shorts in Medium that are pretty baggy, a Madison jersey in Medium that could have been sprayed on and Madison waterproof 3/4s in Medium that are a bit short betwixt crotch and waist. That's pretty much put me off buying any more of their stuff.

I've had Decathlon, Madison and Endura, both too long (I'm 32w, 30l) .
Royal, however, fit a treat. As did Alpkit Floe (they do a short leg).

Edit:

Oh, XL only here.

Didn't realise Madison were using Endura to make their clothing

I tried Royal once , 32" waist , couldn't get them up over my thighs to find out 🙄 I really rate Madison stuff and have never had any sizing issues.

I’ve recently treated myself to a pair of Madison Flux and a pair of Endura Singletrak II. Both in XL. I’m a 30 inside leg. The Flux are more generously cut in the waist/seat than the Singletracks. Both are fractionally long in the leg for me when stood but spot on when pedalling.

I've just bought a pair of the Madison dungarees from Freewheel. They arrived today so I've only tried them on, not ridden in them yet. My guess is they should be pretty robust and are more at the waterproof end of things than the breathable. Coverage very complete under a jacket - I'm really looking forward to getting out there in them, although I'll probably save them for when it's wet and somewhat colder than it is here at the mo. But a key point is they come in 3 leg lengths, the short being 30". I bought medium short, and they fit me, not tight anywhere but not really any spare room round waist/arse/thighs either, so if I had another inch or so in the waist (I'm 33/34") I suspect I'd be better to size up.

Madison flux fitting is definitely a bit odd, perfect if you're humpty dumpty shaped as waist seems disproportional to the legs. I ended up on the medium, where I'd always be a large, so slimmer in the leg than i'd have really wanted, but for the sale price I could live with it.

Was looking at the 7mesh Thunderpants but even in Sigma sports sale they were £260. Those dungarees may well be the trick, especially with 15% off first order code.
Question is, can you wear them with no top on, Tim from Moonshiners style?

I'll be trying those Madison dungarees this time next year when they're half price.

By the way, if you haven't used Freewheel before you can get 15% off your first order. I guess £170 still isn't cheap but I don't think it's terrible value nowadays (assuming they work as I hope/expect and last well - early to say, I know).

I am a 29" inside leg. The madison seem a bit long, and ion. Fox have been the best for me, have a few pairs of theirs and the length is great for me.

well these turned up an hour ago, they are about 3 inches too long and, as a medium, a good inch or so too large in the waist for my 34/35 waist.  Free returns and label so dropping at Post office in morning...

Thanks for Guinea pigging these for me. I'm a 34 waist with regular legs and it sounds like these would be a bit odd.

My current favourites are Fox so I'll stick with those I think.

Quite interested in these, but at 31/32 waist and 33/34 leg I've no idea what size would fit me, based on iainc's findings

I’ve got the Rockrider grey ones and wore them for the first time yesterday at BPW. Very impressed and they were a really good fit. 30w 30 inside leg. Would recommend.

Keela Roadrunner was a recommendation off here. There short is a 29" leg which I need !

They have gone up in price since I bought them about a 1yr ago

They are good and comfy. However when they get the wet the lower leg has too much material and it just flops around

I could have sworn the Madison dungarees were £150 a couple of weeks ago, am I going (more) senile?

I received a pair of the above Madisons today, they're very lightweight. The real problem and why I'm sending them back is that the pockets are only useful for storing a single ant, they're tiny to the point of not being any use. The fit was good for me though, 32" waist, 33" leg and ordered a small.

I had a pair of the Keela ones a couple of years back, they were good,  but wore out after a while.

The Rapha ones have just arrived and fit perfectly in a large so keeping them !

Definitely senile. They weren't even out a couple of weeks ago, they're brand new.

Grrr. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like their quality control might be a tad fishy. I'm a 34 waist and usually 31" I side leg and the medium fits me fine! Random

^^^^ haha 😛, no worries, as you say, easy free returns. My previous experience with Madison shorts was around odd sizing so wasn’t too unexpected !

I wasn't sure if you were referring to leg length or you only had one.

Be thankful you take a smaller size. XL such as myself runs into the problem that the manufacturers equate leg length to waist size, so a 34/35 leg they have you down for a 42+ waist.

I rate Alpkit flows and come in two lenghs. More a summer autumn weight but despite thinness of material I’ve had near 2 years use in all weathers and even gritty mud between rear and saddle hasn’t worn through. About £50 when in bought though the £70-£80 now seems pricey for what they are. Looks out for sales.

Based on a recommendation on here I got some Altura Esker trousers. They're pretty good and not flappy (holden rule cos I hate flappy trouser legs in anything). Water resistant but not mega-sweaty either.

Nukeproofs that were on PSA from CRC a few weeks back with a couple of inches chopped of the legs at the local tailors for my penguin shaped frame. Perfect.

Have the Alpkit Floe on order. The Nukeproof ones came today, and are going back as pretty long and not as nice as the Rapha trail pants.

My Flux arrived this morning. Size small, fitted well around the waist, leg perfect when sitting on bike.
I'm 5'7" with a 30" inseam.

I got some 100% Airmatic.
Whilst my waist now seems to fill 34", my legs don't seem to have made it beyond 31".
They fit about right and the tapered leg keeps the slight extra bit in check.
