Hi All

Just bought a Vitus Escarpe 29 CR in the Chain Reaction sale for a very reasonable £1550. It comes with Marzocchi Z2 Bombers, but from what I've read, they're not fitted with foam rings from the factory.

Wondering if it's worth buying the lower service kit and fitting them myself before riding? Doesn't look too difficult from the Youtube vids, and I've serviced a few of my forks over the years so not worried about actually doing it.

Any thoughts from current Z2 riders? Worth doing when new or just wait and do it as part of the first service?

I had a Sentier VR which had a Z2. I added the foam rings before riding.
I noticed the seals weren’t well lubed from factory either and oil amount seemed low.

Worth doing for sure, and yeah, it’s a simple job.

Not considered this with mine, is that a kit from fox? Was going to look for a service kit for them.

Aye fox 34 lowers kit and 10ml 20wt oil in each leg. Replace the original wipers too.

From memory what I did was just buy the foam rings, oil and small tub of slick honey from ebay. Think it was like £10 for all.

Just to add a semi related comment, I have these forks on a bike, a few years old now. When they were launched there was an issue with a batch of lowers which seems to have tainted their reputation online. That and the fact bushings are pressed in on the lowers. But I've never had an issue with bushings on any forks, and my z2s have been fit and forget for 1000 miles. No different to the 34s I have on my hardtail

Skip the foam and run them locked out on winter roads and the bushes rust, scoring the stanchions.

I remember when people 'in the know' (or not...) would remove the foam rings because they added friction! It's odd that Fox would not include them in this fork. They must cost around 1p when purchased in bulk.

Probably cost more in time to insert than the foam ring itself

This must be a candidate for most outrageous cost cutting.
