Sprung a leak in my breaks so got some new line to replace it with.
undid the locking nut and pulled like mad eventually the olive popped out but the insert has sepparated and is stuck inside the break lever.
I doubt I can get it out, if I try I will probably damage the nossle so if it ends up stuck & knakered I'll have to buy a new front break.
Will I be able to get away with just 'fitting' the new hose & olive onto the nossle in-situ? i.e. inside the lever
I hope this makes sense, but I'll add a paint pic anyway
How've you managed that! I doubt that you'll manage to fit new hose on an insert jammed in the lever. You could try and pull it out with some fine needle nosed pliers but failing that I wouldn't risk it, a new lever's probably the way to go.
LBS!!!
nice pic!! i would try and get it out with some pliers if that fails then off to your LBS
You could try a drill bit down there. Might pick up enough to draw it out. I was wondering if an easy out might work but it's possibly a bit too deep for that. Failing that, if the drill bit doesn't work, tap a small bolt/screw into it and use the fluid pressure from the lever to pop it out. Just don't stand that side of it, it might come out pretty quick. If you're thinking of replacing the lever anyway, what do you have to lose?
I have never serviced them, and given the torque needed to free off the bolts neither did the guy before me.
Its been a bit of a nightmare tbh I bought this bike (focus northern lite 2009) off here, when it all comes together its fantastic and had some awsome days riding. But its also been a nightmare, with me sat alongside a heat gun, hacksaw, hammer and flathead trying to free rotor bolts because its never seen oil in its life, had to re-build the rear hub and now replace the front brake...
so yeh thanks for the advice but no to the LBS, I'll just cut my losses and get a set of avid juicy 3's
on secound thoughts I'll give tapping a bolt into it ago, grab that with the plyers and pull with a bit of pressure on the brakes for good meaure
Did it work?
What brakes are they? I had this happen to my tektro aurigas but did manage to get it out in the end, needle nosed pliers being squashed by molegrips did the trick. Just.
bit of brake line onto the insert, fill with brake fluid and get rid of air. Crimp the end of the brake hose and then pump the lever and try and use the hydraulic pressure to free it.
of course it could just push the hose off but repeated pumping might help free it and act on the face of the insert a bit.
Never got a chance to find out, bike got nicked by a guy with some bolt croppers whilst I was sat unawares just 50m away in a building, absolutley gutted.
needless to say I had just shelled out for a 160mm disc + avid juicy 3 brake to replace front. just going to keep my fingers crossed that the police manage to pull something together, but I'm not holding my breath.
