New Humvees or....?

Morning all,

The stiching along the inner seam of my Humvee shorts has worn through and now find myself with an additional 8cm vent.  While this is stichupable, it appears that several years of wear is catching up with them so somthing new is in order.  They're mainly used for commuting and gravel rides so what alternatives are there or is the answer just another pair of Humvees?

I'm really liking the MT500 Burner shorts I've bought recently. Seem reasonably tough and a nice slim fit, with a decent length to the knee

I really like my Northwave shorts - they are lighter and more stretchy than Humvees, but fit much better.

I also have a pair of the hugely discounted Sweet Hunter Slash shorts arriving today that seem a similar stretchy and lighter than a Humvee.

I have to say - there is a running theme here of my Humvees not being stretchy and perhaps too warm...?

Old Humvees are my favourite shorts. Have more than half a dozen pairs but they are slowly dying off.

The new ones are crap in comparison.

take a look at context ridewear, just announced their shorts

I have their trousers and they are so good, and surprising durable for a sensible amount of cash

The latest Hummvees are still OK IME. I only ever wear mine for commuting and gravel biking - I prefer either more substantial (Troy Lee Motos) or lightweight (Nukeproof Blackline or Outland) for MTBing, depending on type of riding.

I've got the Hummvees in both normal and 3/4 length.

Edit: Nukeproof Outland in selected colours/sizes for £20: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/nukeproof-outland-mens-short?color=blue&sizeStandard=XL. I'm wearing a pair right now for casual/WFH use. Only downside for wearing on the bike is hand pockets lack zips for stashing keys/phone, so not great for commuting for me.

I discovered that Bluelight Card holders get 50% off most things in the Endura shop. Worth a look if you have access to one.

Mine bought in June last year took less than a year to do that.

Alpkit ones I bought at the same time have been worn twice as much and are still great. I should’ve got some more when the sale was on recently.

I bought two Endura items last year/18mnths - a FS260 Jersey and winter bib longs.
Both have had stitching on the seams go in a very similar way.

Really poor.

I rip a hole in the crotch of all shorts, Hummvee included, with the exception of the original I had 10+ years ago but they got worn out in others ways.

Once the crotch is ripped, I catch the seat as I'm riding and makes it worse. Tried repairs but don't last. I'm no expert with needle and thread though.

Also last Hummvees, pocket zip broke. Had them only a few years

I still keep buying Endura though I moan about them as nothing else is any more durable despite quality seemingly getting worse. There's usually a deal on, and know what fits. Just got another pair from Tredz which was going cheap including liner.

Got some MT500 recently which seem nice. I'll give it a year for a rip to develop.
