Just got these from Hong Kong on eBay. Slight bit of damage which is annoying but sending them back would be a PITA. Its mostly a scratch on the hub but there's a bit of damage on the free hub body too. Nothing to be too worried about is it?

Sorry for crap phone pics.

Thinking i'll just email the seller and see if I can get a small amount refunded off the cost.

Nah. Wouldnt bother me enough to post to China. I doubt I could even be arsed getting in the car to the lbs if I'd bought locally to be honest.

They'll definitely look worse once you start trying to turn them into a set of wheels! 🙂

But I dont think I'd be bothered by that though, looks like cosmetic damage and they're only cheap anyway.

The markings on the freehub body we can see look intentional?

I'd not be fussed in the least personally considering its origins. Would send a Hope hub back though.

Markings on the freehub look like mould marks? You could send it back and get a different random collection of marks.

The little scratch on the hub will be hidden once you stick a cassette on it anyway.

I think you've just summed up buying from HK on ebay: cheap, but you take your chances as return isn't easy. I presume you saved a decent amount of money compared to buying from elsewhere - nothing I can see there is anything more than cosmetic, I think your best option is to suck it up and buy some beer with the money you saved - as others have mentioned you'll never know it's not pristine once you fit a cassette.

Thanks folks, just wanted to confirm my thinking. They were cheaper than Hope but not mega cheap. Couldn't see these Novatc hubs for sale in Europe but they seem very well thought of.

In the second pic you can see there are markings as well as the intentional ones. Not half as bad as a Pro II hub once it's been used though!

The very slight mark to the right of the '7'? Put on a cassette and ride it a few miles and you'll never be able to find that again.
