my xtr bb started making a horrible crunching sound today and i fear it may have bitten the dust. going to strip it down tomorrow and have a better look but worse case scenario am going to need a new one. Anybody favour a certain BB? i have used a couple of the basic shimano ones and they have been a bit pants so was potentially looking at a saint one and hoping it will probably be a bit stronger. Anybody have any experiences with the hope or chris king BB's??
Why not just replace the bearings with a set from BETD and save the nice XTR cups? It should be easy enough for you to do if you're already confident enough to strip it out of the bike. They were around £23/pr last time I got some.
I've both the Hope ceramic and stainless. The stainless is over 3 years old and works as goodc as the day it was bought - been on about 4 bikes so far. The ceramic one is 2 years old and has been in constant use, still smooth. Would buy either again, but go for ceramic if you've the budget.
