So 4 days ago, I bought myself a Lazer Revolution helmet - £100 from LBS...first outing tonight with it on and I managed to not see a very low branch and managed to ride squarely into it and stop dead in my tracks. No visible damage to the helmet, but I was seeing stars for 15 minutes and felt dizzy for the rest of the ride. Eyesight is still focussed and I'm not feeling sick - however, given that my neck and back are now more than twinging - I suspect I've given myself a fair dunt.

I know that damage to a helmet isn't always visible, but the tight-fistedness in me is telling me that the helmet will be absolutely fine and I shouldn't worry about it. However, the sensible bit of my head that is probably still seeing stars is suggesting I see what the crash replacement policy is like and use it to get a 'working' helmet.

Am I being overly daft thinking about replacing it?

Obviously the knock has done something as I'm now posting on here asking for advice on what should be a pretty obvious thing to do!

If any doubt replace, you only get one brain. Many people will say otherwise, so your call. I have replaced 4 crashed lids in the past 4 years, 2 were properly smashed up, the other 2 had virtually no visible damage but I knew they had taken hard knocks. Oh, I went on a skills course after the first 2 😜

if you are concerned enough to ask here, then replace it. If i had that doubt in the back of my mind i wouldnt be comfortable with it.

It's the most vital organ in your body.

Yes, even more so than the little chap downstairs.

New lid time bud.

Have they a crash replacement policy?

So not a small bump at all then

Right, more sense is returning...I'll sort the replacement tomorrow, apparently 50% of retail price.

Glad to see others are also thinking what my sensible head is thinking as well.

Thanks.

Oh, and be sure to take a hammer to the old one before binning it...

Seeing stars for fifteen minutes? That isn't a small bump. As as above, sorry, but you need a new lid.

I’m all for trying to keep kit as long as I can but lids are not worth taking a risk on.

Just get it replaced

Smash the old one, you'll be shocked at how little strength there is, it's just a bit of energy absorption.

I dropped a sledge hammer on mine and it was in bits, tried the same with a horse riding hat, although the polystyrene inside must have been smashed to bits, the huge sledge just bounces off the shell, I stopped before it broke as the sledge bouncing back made me nervous!
