In need of a new helmet.
Currently have a 7idp M2 which is ok but a bit wide.
Have tried loads on in the LBS today but can't find anything that fits properly.
My head is 56cm but fairly narrow - most helmets seem fairly round.
Tried on the following today so have ruled them out:
Fox Drop Frame
Troy Lee A1 & A2
Endura Humvee
Endura MT500
Alpine Stars
Giro Chronicle
So any suggestions?
Specialized !
Specialised, Bell and MET are the obvious options missing - slightly more niche is Uvex that you could try if you can find them in stock anywhere.
I am in a pretty similar place and was going to post something along the same lines! I went round the bike shops of Aberdeen on Sat trying to find something that was either massive (loads of room at the sides) or to small front and back to fit my head in, I'm also an awkward in betweeny size, just a touch over 59cm so I'm the bottom end of Large. Sorry OP I know that doesn't help!
Thanks all.
Anyone have experience with POC helmets? Like the look of the Tectal.
I have a similar head shape (picture the xenomorph from Alien) and have found Specialized to fit me the best. They seem to offer a couple of different shapes so some models may suit while others don't. I have an Echelon for road and a trail helmet I can't remember the name of. Bell helmets have also worked for me.
POC are very round IME so don't suit us freaky heads very well, although it's a few years since I tried one on.
I have a similar shaped head, but 60cm. I have been trying a fair few helmets lately as i am needing a new one. Everything i tried was either too round or made my head look like a mushroom. Then i tried on an ABUS, best fitting one from all the ones i have tried lately.
I've had similar problems in a bit larger size (64 cm). I rode Giro XL:s for a long time, they are too wide for me, but there aren't that many options in my size to choose from. I tried on a MET last year and it was perfect, so it might be worth a try.
Too wide for me, give Specialized a go for fit. Smith is another similar fit. Try a size smaller, just in case, I went down a size though it was snug fit. I have the same problem with oval head.
POC fit me perfectly, but my On-One enduro thingy feels very narrow (side to side) and long (front to back)
So I can only assume I have a round head and the On-One would suit a narrower/longer head shape.
Narrow bonce here too. Have moved on from Giro to the new Oakley DRT5 or whatever it's called.
Doesn't look like a big mushroom and the sweat band is something else, no more salt water in my eyes.
Steve
I also have a narrow head.
Tried the Poc Trabec which is very round, but the Tectal fitted quite nicely.
Maybe worth trying trying Sweet Protection? Ive not tried their bike helmets but i have a kayaking helmet of theirs and it fits lengthways where others did not!
Thanks all.
Will track down a few of the suggestions above.
Anyone had a Kali Maya 2.0? What's the fitting like on those?
Any italian makers? I know with motorcycle helmets italian ones are for narrow heads and german for wide heads - due to the average shape in those countries!
Lazer may also do a helmet that fits the narrower head.
Specialized here.
I have a round head and find Bell fit me well so avoid them. Giro and Met did not fit well.
I think I have what could be described as a long narrow head and quite wide at the back. I had a lot of trouuble finding one to fit. After trying many I went for the IXS trail RS Evo. Specialised Ambush and Bontrager Rally fit me quite well also.
Tried another couple on today.
Specialized felt quite nice and didn't look too much like a bowl - although it was a bit more XC than Enduro - but if the rest are similar fit might be a contender.
Also tried another Giro Chronicle today - MIPs version - which seemed to fit a bit better but still looked quite bulky.
As I couldn't find one local taken a punt and ordered a Kali Maya 2.0 - will cost me return postage if it doesn't fit.
So the Kali Maya arrived today from One-Planet @ Llandegla.
I have to say as it's the first one of Kali's helmets I've looked at it pretty nicely finished.
The flouro yellow is slightly more green that it looks on the web, but still nice with the titanium look.
As for fit & comfort it feels spot on after wondering round with it on for a few minutes.
Doesn't feel too wide on my head either.
So it looks like it was worth a punt!

Will be giving it a maiden voyage tomorrow.
Some interesting features too if you fancy a look:
Composite fusion
Low Density Layer (alternative to MIPs)
I have a very narrow heid and IXS Trail RS is a perfect fit!
Curtain pole needs to be put up.
@andy4d yeah, 4 of them down there at the moment.
Putting it off as I hate fixing into plaster board.....
