I just received a new hardtail on a black friday offer on cycle to work from a well known company and there are 3 chips on the frame.
It was an absolute bargain however advertised as brand new
Now would it be right for me to complain or not?
The chips are all on the top tube
If it was a road bike i would have to ship it back however i feel like i might be being a bit daft worrying about them on a mtb which is going to get marked very quickly
Thanks
Christian
Tell the company they may offer to discount it accordingly.
What Godzilla said, even in the sales it's unacceptable unless that was the stated reason for a price mark down
If it's on C2W then it's not even yours (yet). I'd report it on behalf of your employer.
You already have complained.
Just not anywhere relevant.
My current frame had two chips out of dropout and one out of the seat stay. Therefore it was half price frame, in shop window.
I had scratches on a bike I bought from a well know online company with questionable customer service.... a credit note was issued within days and all was happy hence I still use them...
Cheers, Steve
If it was a knockabout commuter hack thing I wouldn't be arsed. If it was a treat I'd been looking forward to I'd maybe see what they would offer, credit note for some build bits mebbe or the like

Exactly
I had a similar issue, frame replacement under warraty from a well known high street retailer.
The new frame was a different colour scheme, which I was OK with but when I picked it up it had chips in a couple of places on the top tube.
The retailer wasn't interested, told me I was lucky to have a new frame and they'd had to fit a new headset as it was different to the old frame (it wasn't)
and the fact they had to rebuild the bike should be compensation enough.
They also said it came from the distributor like that. After getting nowhere in the shop I went direct to the disctributor and got a few bits by way of compensation and I also spoke to the guy who had dealt with the return and he said it was undamaged when he packed it up.
Eventually emailed someone high up in the retailer and he basically told me to get stuffed...
I wouldn't E Van consider shopping there anymore and I always tell people to avoid the place.
So to recap... worth complaining, but depending where it came from you may get nowhere!
You bought a new bike cheaply, not a discounted damaged bike. Sure you wiould be within your rights to get it replaced.

You must be a hoot at parties.

Along these lines for me in principle.
In practice though, I'd weigh up the hassle of getting it sorted against what I'd bought it for. I'd be less inclined to follow up if it was superficial damage and it was going to be knocked about on a bike rack every day anyway or it would mean I'd be getting the train to work in the meantime for more than a day or two.
As above. If it was a dream bike or even a full rrp normal bike I would take it back. If it's a bargain runabout that does a job I wouldn't bother.
I got a bargain set of Pikes that had a couple of very minor marks on the brace. I um'd and ah'd but in the end decided the price was good enough to overlook it. On the other hand my mate got a Parkwood that had a less than perfect paint finish. I would have sent it back. He couldn't be bothered.
Ended up getting 40 in vouchers as compensation.
The bike store was very good and didnt make me feel bad for complaining. Now what to spend them on.
Cheers guys 🙂
good result. Just about the right price for a decent pair of pedals, which new bikes never come with!
