has anyone managed to find anyone in the U.K. who stocks the new model Hans Dampf, specifically 2.35. - 650b ideally speed grip compound? Maybe I’m jumping the gun slightly but am desperate to try one.
I've been running one for a few weeks now, really wasn't a fan of the old HD but been impressed with this one so far.
Magic Mary up front with the HD out back on my Airdrop, rolls, clears mud and grips better than the old HD.
Yes. I had to resort to going online and CRC had them. I believe Nextdaytyres also had them in stock.
sorry if this is a thread hijack but what is the go to aggressive XC/trail tyre in 650b that is tubeless, relatively lightweight and not called ron, ralph or nic?
I went with a new Nobby Nic 2.3 SpeedGrip as NDT didn’t have a HD when I looked. It’s a long chunkier than the old NN and so far I’ve been very impressed with it in the dry and the wet...
Alex I have a new Nobby Nic on the rear and find it fairly awful in anything other than the dry. Hence the new HD. JamJ are you sure it’s a 650b new tread HD? I can only find old model in apex compounds or super gravity versions.
Got one mounted ready to ride, which I picked up off a local guy switching the tyres on his new bike to Maxxis.
Good to hear it's OK in mud as I thought the knobs might be a bit shallow and densely spaced, was thinking of it more as a summer tyre but will try it of course.
Russyh- really? You ride near me in the FoD I think? I’ve got it on my Aeris 120 and I’m really happy with it. Rolling, turning and braking. Maybe when it’s get horrible and super sloppy I’ll change my mind. Still I did have a set of Mavic Quest’s on before so…...

Magic Mary.

Yes, I am sure. I can take a picture if you like 😉
I would prefer the link please!
Alex, yes both myself and my mate with the same tyre have found it a little pushed in the wetter stuff. It’s certainly better than the old one and not disastrous, but I much prefer the old Hans Dampf so hoping the new one packs up less. I would keeep for the summer but at that point a rock razor is a much better option. Tyres are a personal thing mind, I have some riding buddies who are very quick indeed and ride with nobby nic front and rear all year!
If you liked the old HD the new one is better in every way... though imo that wouldn't be too hard 😆
When I bought it I was told that the hardest compound it was available in at the time (the week they came out) was Soft (red/orange) so may be why you're struggling to find a Speedgrip version. Time will tell if it holds up ok but grip is good and less draggy than the old version.
Tried the new NN, was ok but way too flimsy to be of any use - stuck with either a RR or MM on the back since.
27.5 HD is in speedgrip available. Where right now? Don't know. Sorry.
But the old Trailstar is here and there "in sale" for very little money.
On XC bike: HD , soft, as front tyre is quite good.
For trail bike or all mountain bike the HD in speedgrip version is quite good as rear tyre.
I personally stick with MM on my all mountain bike front and rear, both soft. Faaantastic grip. And - o.k ... - quite some drag...

Its the new tread pattern I want! As per MTB op! Old ones are ten a penny.
I’ll drop Schwalbe an email to see if and when they will be supplying U.K. with speedgrip, car less at minute else I would pop into LBs
If anyone is interested I have had this response from Schwalbe U.K.
Dear Russ
Your email to Schwalbe has found its way to me hear at Schwalbe UK, great to hear from you. With regards to the Hans Dampf for 2019 I am afraid a 27.5 x 2.35 size is only available in Soft compound: https://www.schwalbe.com/en-GB/offroad-reader/hans-dampf.html For a Speedgrip option in 27.5 x 2.35 you would be looking at either Nobby Nic or Fat Albert rear. It is worth noting that the centre tread of both Speedgrip and Soft are very similar in terms of rolling properties so, a slightly more inflated rear tyre in soft will still roll quite well for example.Kind regards
Will
I’m not too sure, my orange soft Mary has rounded off fairly quickly so the thought of a rear makes me twitch a little. Will give it a go....makes you wonder what JamJ has fitted, it can’t be a speedgrip 2019 HD that’s for sure
That confirms what my LBS told me, cant see it lasting all that long but see how we get on with them.
I'm running a new HD 2.6 Speedgrip on the back that I got off the Commencal website for about £42, liking it so far. Paired with a soft 2.6 MM on the front, tidy.
You know that point where you look like a massive bellend on a forum...? I do.
Mine Hans Dampf is ‘Addix Soft’. Sorry, I didn’t read Speedgrip in the original post.
Apologies for not reading your post properly.
J
Very good price for a new 2.6 speedgrip here

😂😂. Yep, don’t worry mate!
incidentally how do you find the soft compound on the rear? Draggy at all? Any signs of wear yet?
Thanks for the 2.6 links, but I’m after a 2.35 guys.
That 2.6 link has got me thinking though. How big do they come up?
What sidewalls are you guys running? Thinking of switching from DHF/DHR2 in 3C MaxxTerra Exo to MM/HD Addix Soft combo, but have heard the Snakeskin sidewalls are flexy and a bit fragile.
Wouldn’t say the snakeskin is more ‘flimsy’ then exo to be honest.
Wear - can’t say, it’s done 15km as I can’t really ride at the mo. Feels as it rolls just as well as the old Trailstar version. Feels as grippy and indeed may be more so, but not pushed it hard as yet.

On par or a bit tougher, I'd say.
But just get the Supergravity carcass if that's a worry - it's perfect for people who put holes in normal 1-ply rear tyres.
