What I'm actually looking for is an E4 review, now they've been out for a while.

'PerpetuallyDisappointed has a long term review, which isnt great on the whole, but I wondered if thats maybe a one off, and how others felt before I hit buy.

It's not about power, feel, but I'd prefer they worked consistently as I've a number of bikes and cant ride them all the time 😆
Matched onto new tech 3 levers, I've already an X2, but wondered if it was worth buying the 4 pot or sticking to the easier to set up X2, which is maybe a bit quieter.

Cheers.
Plus I can get and E4 for £56 and the X2 for £6o

E4 for £56? Can you get me some as well?

They work more consistently than anything else I've ever had. They're a joy to work on as it's so easy. Everything is metal not plastic. They're fully rebuildable and have the best parts back up/customer service in the industry.

But if I was buying again I'd get V4 over E4. Not sure what the weight penalty is but if there's any more power I'd take it.

I just wish that Hope, as a brake manufacturer, would prioritise stopping power. They've absolutely nailed everything else.

Your experience may differ. I've got a Geometron and ride it like a DH bike.

Assume you mean caliper only for just £56?

I've got Tech 3 X2s on one bike, and they're great. Lovely feel & modulation. Never felt under-braked, even at somewhere like BPW.

Got Tech Evo M4s (very similar to the E4s) on another bike and they're a bit fiddlier to set up, and the pistons can move unevenly sometimes. Stop you well enough though.

I have the Race evo E4 on my 29er mega and M4 paired with race evo levers on my hardtail and I can't remember a point where I needed more power.
It's true they lack the eye popping power of Shimano saint, but I think they're more use able (how often do you need to come to a dead stop straight away).
Bleeding and setup is a bit fiddlier than others but once setup they're dependable.

I have V4's on my 150mm FS 29er and once they're set up properly with the pads properly centred (you know when it's right as the levers go from 'a bit squishy' to 'FIRM!') I don't see how anyone could say they're lacking in power. They just have a nice smooth start and then enless grunt the more you pull.

I'd be happy running E4's front and rear on anything, maybe an X2 rear on a lightweight hardtail. Front? E4 or V4.

Aye, caliper only.

I had the tech, and evo x2's but thought they just stayed spongy, despite numerous bleeds, which I eventually put down to the double diaphragm with two lids, one facing down. I think it had a sealing issue, and I've come across other tech x2 master cylinders with stripped threads on the lids, which suggests to me people felt they needed to tighten down very tightly. Call me mad but hope have went back to the single lid lever, the flip flop techs seem to be being quietly forgotten.
Mayeb thats just me.

So bought some tech 3 levers, and got an x2 new for 33 quid, just needing that other caliper, and I think fromt he replies thus far I should pop along to crc and hit BUY.

....Which I've just done 😀
CRC 2 left 33% off, hour 30 mins remaining on their offer, should anyone feel the need to present themselves with an unbirthday gift.

Ta All. I knew it would be all ok.

My E4s look amazing, and as long as set up is perfect they feel great. I've had problems with sticky pistons, and if they're not aligned exactly power drops off significantly.

That's what I've found with setup, however it doesn't take too much to set them up right, not had any piston issues but then the bike's only done 130 miles, albeit all covered in mud.

Oh and they're noisy. Both comprimises I'm very willing to accept for how good they are.

The power is there on the E4 it just lacks the initial grab that Shimano seem to favour. But you gain better modulation.

I've had saints and xt's and agree they are as powerful as need to be but like previously mentioned, when do you need to grab a handful to come to a stop. I always find im single finger scrubbing off some speed to make corners and stuff.

See I hate, no, despise the on/off shimano feeling, my old deore 2 pots were fine but XT's on a demo bike, in the wet, I felt the front was going to just lock instantly the moment I looked at the lever.

Power is nothing without control. ;D

I have the V4s and love one finger braking, total overkill when they were on my Trailstar but a joy to use.

I can't imagine E4's are much more than my old Mono M4s with equal pistons and superior levers, as said its essentially just another M4 evolution.

Yeah Ive got a set of the mono m4's too, and tech m4's and mono pro, and mono mini's, and mini mono, and c2's, then theres the cable operated ones.

Whats good about the earlier 4 pots is all the pads are the same and you can use monos on tech m4's. Like you say, its probably much the same for the E4's, and I would be surprised if its still the same pads.

The ones I bought are purple, the rest i have are either silver or black. the bike is in purple mode currently.

Power is nothing without control. ;D

I've also been saying that for years, thing is though, i'm never in control. Bikes are there for me to fall off of 😆

I've currently got Tech3s on X2, E4s and V4s.

X2 for the rear on the XC bike, with an E4 up front. E4s on the trail bike. and V4s on the big bike for enduro/DH.

They're all as reliable as each other - which is super reliable. Parts are easy to get, and cheap, and they bleed really well - especially with the proper Hope bleed kit, which is a joy to use.

All depends on what you want them for. The V4s feel more slightly more powerful than then E4s, and the E4s feel a good bit more powerful than the X2s.

I’ve got E4s and X2s on numerous bikes, usually in E4 front and X2 rear config on 180mm rotors, but run X2 front and rear on the Singlespeed. The E4s are a good deal more powerful.
