As the title states: should a new bike frame come with a rear axle?

I bought a new Santa Cruz (Nomad) frameset which has just been delivered. Universal gear hanger is in the box - but no rear axle.

I am about to call the shop to ask about it - but thought I'd check with the STW knowledge base first!

(Possibly a daft question, but it's been about 6 years since I last bought a new bike frame!)

I've bought a few frames over the past three years, all have come with the axle.

You must be psychic ... I've just been tearing the box to bits looking for it. But sadly, to no avail!

Annoyingly, the shop is closed on Wednesdays ... so can't get hold of them until tomorrow.

The last frame I bought was some years ago and it never came with an axle. But it was a 135mm QR 😀

My SC Stigmata frame came with an axle in the box last year. Well, 2 axles technically (front and rear).

I would generally expect a frame to come with an axle, with a Santa Cruz I would absolutely expect it

Should do. Got a tallboy frame earlier this year, supplied w/ dt swiss axle. Mine was missing the cable grommets though.

I would think you need to readjust your expectations if you think a rear axle should be included when only spending 3.5 k on a frame…

They aren’t a charity… you’ll be expecting free paint next

The axle came on my tallboy frame earlier this year. Dropout/mech hanger wasn't in the box tho. V frustrating considering the investment! The bike shop sorted it after numerous calls tho.

I had an axle and a spare hanger on my Tallboy. Value for money.

Yes, should have a little SC drybag type thing with spare hanger, axle, cable clips and DT Swiss axle/skewer

FYI I believe the new SC frames with the Universal Hanger don’t get a spare hanger (as UDH easy to source and relatively cheap). Mine also has a Burgtec rear axle rather than DT Swiss (I preferred the latter as no Allen key needed but first world issue). Bought as complete bike rather than frame.
