[Closed] New frame / new axle required - how do I adapt my Hope Pro 2 Evo?

I'm thinking of buying this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ns-bikes-eccentric-cromo-frame-2015/rp-prod127515

For rear axle it comes with this: ''142x12mm, NS axle included or 135x10 bolt-on only (adaptors included)''

I'm new to bolt-thru axles on frame, having only ever used QR - what do I need to adapt my Pro2 Evo to fit the 142x12 axle?

I think I read a grumbling by someone on doing this conversion, are there any issues running Pro2's in this config?

And what's the 135x10 bolt-on only thinggymajig? I don't get it

You just need to buy the right new endcaps - about £10-15. CRC etc have them. They just push on, finger tight.

Don't worry about the 135x10 bit, it's another less good option.

Not sure from the description but as I read it, it will come with a 142x12 axle included which you'd just then get matching hope adapters for and is pretty easy.

As I also read it, the frame also includes adapters to allow you to use 135x10 bolt though which would be useful if you already had that type of hub but otherwise if no real point since you don't.

135x10 is a rear hub with a 10mm though axle rather than QR but essentially pretty similar.

Cool, thanks.

And yes, I was thinking it was just a pair of end caps required as an axle is already included.

Anyone have any issues with running an Evo2 in this set up?
I'm probably wrong, but I think I read somewhere that there were some issues with this hub, I assume whilst running these end caps.

Oh yeah, the headset states ''Semi integrated Zero Stack (ID 44mm)''
I currently run a 46550b - which claims 44mm headtube, running ''1.5" Lower With 1 1/8" Upper''
Is this a straight swap?.. (i'll be running the tapered Rev that came with the 45650b)

EDIT - seems the 45650 runs an FSA Orbit ITA, which is the recommended headset for the Eccentric. Bingo! In fact, looks like every component is a straight swap, minus the hub end caps. Well happy with that.

The head tube on that frame doesn't look like it's tapered so it's a different headset to your current one. You can use tapered forks with it IIRC but it'd need a special headset that sits outside of the lower end of the headtube to allow space for your tapered fork.

I'm pretty sure this was the non-Evo version of the hub. This had different bearings (smaller ID) and axle breakages were seen. The Evo is designed to run with a 12mm axle so will be fine. (I've run one for coming on 3 years and not managed to break it - 100kg and no finesse whatsoever).

cheers euain.

Can anyone confirm what Nemesis posted? or if my suspicion is correct in 45650b headset being perfect for Rev/Eccentric?

From Eccentric:
''Fork Compatibility: standard 1-1/8” or tapered 1.5 - 1-1/8” steerer tubes (forks with taper 1.5 – 1-1/8” steerer tubes can fit ZS44/44 headtube using special headsets with external lower cup (FSA Orbit ITA-A, ITA-B, Cane Creek XX44)''

From On-One:
''Head Set - FSA Orbit ITA Headset / 1.5" Lower With 1 1/8" Upper / Black / Lower External With Upper Integrated''

Oh yeah, I'm running an XD driver.. hope this doesn't stuff the end cap availability/fitment (?)..

OK, just had a look at the 456b and it looks as though it's not got a tapered head tube but rather 44mm straight and if so then the headset would indeed be a straight swap.

Man i'm getting so confused with the XD/Pro2 axle/spacer arrangement.

Can someone tell me exactly what I need to convert the Pro2 Evo (40T) hub to run the 142x12 axle - with XD driver ?

I think I need a 12mm drive side end cap straight onto the existing axle - but does it also require an XD specific spacer?

Also, does the non drive side need a different end cap? (assume so) - sorry for the dumdum Q's

Phone Hope? I'm sure they'll see you right.

There are different caps drive-side and non-drive-side (silver and black - can't remember which is which). I'm still running 10s so can't help with XD specifics - I'd be surprised if they're not compatible but worth checking.

Yeah just called Hope - they recommended NDS spacer (black) HUB463, and DS spacer (silver) HUB471

I think the drive side spacer differs for 12mm axle pending if you are running Shimano or Sram freehub - there are certainly several other spacer options available.
HUB471 isn't even listed in the blown diagram on their tech site:

based on that diagram I would've bought HUB462 had I not called.

Yep, phone Hope on the XD bit. You'll need adapters for both sides of the hub but they come together usually.

headset wise yes, you should be able to just swap it over as it looks like both the new frame and the 45650b have the normal 44mm ID standard. you can run a 1 1/8th, taper and 1.5" steerer in the 44mm ID head tubes, just need to have external cups for the 1.5" and bottom of a taper or you can have internal for 1 1/8th steerers as with the top of your On One.

That looks like the perfect frame to run the fork and wheels I am taking off my Trigger on..shame it's not discounted more.

Its the cheapest price online, and up close it has some really nice details (seat stay interface/dropouts/disc mount etc).
Was considering a Shan but think the Eccentric is well worth a look, nice and long too. 20mm longer than my 456b (35+mm effective in fact).

Have also been wishing for a further 10% discount but stock is running low and i'll kick myself if I miss out on a black one in my size.

Im buying it in lieu of not giving in to a Trigger! 🙂
