After a year or so of not riding , I took my ti456 around Gisburn yesterday . Was bumpier than I remember and have concluded I need new forks.

Given this is now a dinosaur sizing, anyone seen 26 140/ 150 air or poss coil 26 forks going cheap anywhere.

Got a north wales weekend coming up and thinking this place will also be super bumpy. New tyres also needed as ripped a sidewall on my Contis.

Suggestion for Light weight, tough tyres for rocky places ??

Thanks for any thoughts..

X fusion Velvets and Rockshox Revelations on Chainreaction - both 15mm front hubs.

Choice very limited for new but quite a lot available used.

If you want new then I reckon you'll need to be quick.

What model tyre did you rip?

Im really liking the suntour epixon I got fitted recently, only 100 or 120. But more travel isn't necessarily an improvement, over a better quality fork, what frame/fork have you got now?

Lightyears better than the suntour xcm they replaced. Hardly anywhere seems to stock them though, so you'd probably have to order from a distributor or an lbs.

They do longer travel forks too, auron or duron I think they are called, you can download thier product catalogue from thier website. I think most of their trade is in the OEM market so you don't usually see them for sale as much as other brands.

Thinking new , or as new 2nd hand, as do not want to have an expensive service . 15mm would mean new wheel and trying to keep cheapest as do not ride that much.
Tyre was a Conti explorer , which I have been running for years as used to live South Downs .

Currently sitting in Whaley at the in laws so may take a trip to merlin as only 12 miles away and I have never been there..

I've got some X-Fusion Vengeance that can be lowered to 150mm

Getting very sought after now these 26" 1" 1/8 forks

(keeping them to put on a Shan later this year)

Continental Explorer is a cheap and weedy old thing.

I like On One Chunky Monkeys as they are pretty tough, grip well and are cheap.

If you like Conti's there are much better tyres than the Explorer.

If you are looking for QR, I'm guessing you'll really struggle - might be better trying the classifieds, but I still think you'll struggle

The epixon is probably worth a look then, up to 120mm, air fork, adjustable rebound. Available in 1/8 straight steer QR .

I paid £230 brand new fitted through an lbs.

You're looking around the the £200 Mark for anything new and decent to be honest.
The other fork I was considering was the rockshox tk gold solo air, similar price.

For 150mm I'd be tempted to move away from QR. 20mm tends to be cheaper as it's a dying standard. You can pick up 20mm 26" wheels for buttons so it shouldn't be a big upheaval.

What travel is the frame designed for?
I was looking second hand, but being tall, most of the decent looking ones either had way too much travel or the steerer had been cut down too much, so I had little option but to buy new.

A pal bought a pair of Revs from Merlin recently, straight steerer and 15mm.

150mm seems to be recommended for frame. Currently has 130mm forks which need a good service .
Thanks for input , merlot visit been vetoed , off for walk around nab instead ..

What fork do you have? Is it possible to to upgrade the internals?

Eg I think the RS sektor and revelation share the same chassis but there is a big difference in performance between a sektor RL and an rev RCT3.

Speak to Loco or other suspension specialists and see what options you have to upgrade the internals.

Also if the geometry is the same as the carbon 456 I prefered it at 130mm. I thought that made a better all rounder. at 150mm it felt a little bit like a blunt implement, great for ploughing through rough stuff but a little lifeless on climbs or tight twisty single track. I used to have a U turn rev on it and I would raise it to 150mm when doing DH on it but for most other riding I would keep at 130mm.

Currently 130 revs u turns that seem to dive too much and also have a clonk. Figuring a service will be £100. Might open them myself and have a look.

Interesting read. I've been toying with idea of new forks for my Covert which will take a straight or tapered steerer or new/used to put on 2012 Prince Albert / Soul. Will probabky mkve my Talas from Cover to PA/Soul and go new on Covert.

Used Fox's on here for £200 + post which tbh at that price I'd rather buy another brand new, rightly or wrongly

As an aside OP, Gisburn is bumpier than it was a few months back; I think all the rain in the past few months has washed a lot of fill away.

I wouldn't wait too long to make up your mind as these are just going to get harder to source

I think the Rev chassis is still pretty good and worth upgrading. Worth talking to some suspension specialists to see what upgrades you have.

You don't state which damper and which air spring. If they are dual air try increasing the air pressure to make it stand up more. Then to counteract the stiffer spring and get some small bump compliance back increase the negative spring pressure 5 or 10 psi above the positive spring. If solo air you might be able to get an aftermarket kit to allow you to use the volume spacers to change the spring rate.

If it has a basic RL damper see if you can upgrade it to the RLC to give you low speed compression adjust or even to the RCT3 damper. If moving to the RCT3 damper it is also recommended that you upgrade the rebound damper to the dual flow one too so might start to get expensive.

I have literally this week taken a set of 2012 Rockshox Revelation RL 150mm with straight steerer and 15mm axle off my bike. They were serviced a year ago by Loco and have not seen a lot of use since then - estimated 20 hours riding? They could probably do with a service soon though.

I wasn't going to put them up yet for sale as they need a clean but email me if you're interested (email in profile). I was looking for approx £120 + postage.

Mr Alpha,
Thanks for offer, but going to have a good look at my revs and try the tips above on air pressures – before I start spending ££’s.
After consideration as an xc jey boy 130 mm should really be enough for me.
My revs are dual air with red bit on bottom and two twisty knobs on the top leg I think.
Just need to work out how to set them up I think..

Jerome,
I've just snapped my Ti456 frame 🙁 and whatever I replace it with is unlikely to be 26", so I'll probably end up selling the fork I had on there.
It's a 140mm Marzocchi 44RC3Ti, Titanium coil. Perfect match for the 456Ti IMHO. An absolutely bombproof fork.

email in profile. I can take some pics tonight if it sounds like what you're after.
