I appreciate this may sound a bit odd but here goes.

I'm currently looking at buying some new albeit 18month or so old Rebas.

As there is a good chance they have been standing for a while us it worth a lower leg service prior to using them.

My head says that the oil they were built up containing should still be in there and fine but the stanction wear fairy is telling me its all dried up and in a couple of months I will have ruined my forks.

Good preventative practise or worrying about nothing.

I probably would, if just for peace of mind.

In a weird 'close encounters' way, I have just bought a pair of rebas that had been stood in a shop for 12 months and was wondering the exact same thing. I think the bigger worry would be the suspension grease on the seals degrading and coming out, but if anyone has any opinions that would be great.........

I'd stand them upside down for 24 hours to give the seals a good soak.

For the cost in terms or price and time its a no brainer to strip and rebuild with new everything. The O ring kits off Ebay are dirt cheap and with new foam rings and wipers you wont go far wrong.

Which is all very well assuming there is some oil in there.
I'd drop the lowers and do an oil change just to be sure.

At the bare minimum I would drop some fork oil around the seals and give them a good compress or two.

I've read a couple of threads on other forums where people have bought Rock Shox forks that came with hardly any oil in the lowers and needed a service from new.

oil doesn't evaporate - if only it did I might be able to get rid of the oil slick on my drive

Even with new Rockshox I would do a lower service before using them after a bad experience with some Pikes a few years ago.

I'd do it just to be sure. It doesn't take long to drop the lowers off and make sure there's grease and oil in the right places.
