Lower BB and pretty colours.... got to admit, I'm disappointed. Had been hovering over the purchase button on a large gunmetal one for ages, then finally had the cash but the gunmetal had sold out. New one doesn't do SS which kind of rules me out. Oh well.

I suppose I could have a Roadrat again... wanted drops though.

I like the look of the revised frames, but those pictures are awful.

Why can't you use a roadrat with drops?

Been looking at these and can not make my mind up which would be the best as a long distance road bike replacement ?

Never been happy with Road bike fit and get on great with my Soul.

You can. I do. But the Escapade is designed for drops, the Roadrat for flat bar. TBH, the geometry isn't much different, Roadrat has higher BB and higher front end, the rest you can mitigate with stem length. I may be fussing about even less than nothing.

the Roadrat for flat bar.

Oh, I thought it was meant to work with both, or maybe that was the earlier ones. There's only 20mm difference in the TT length; would probably work better with a shorter stem anyhow.

Conversely I bought an Escapade a few months ago but would have waited for one with vertical dropouts if I'd known

I bought one too - I didn't want vertical dropouts so I am most pleased.

Well they're getting close to what could be the ultimate commuter, which would be:
1. Fixed gear Escapade with forward-facing dropouts for easy removal with full mudguards
2. Discs - with calliper positioned for easy wheel removal

Alternatively you could get an Escapade and build it up as a singlespeed with a tensioner I suppose.

Pretty much nothing to wear out and nothing to be adjusted on a day to day basis

Bum , was gonna order a yellow one in the next few weeks but thats out the window now and i preferred the track style dropouts , more choice and its gained an extra £30
Edit: they still have the older version in yellow 🙂

Original Escapade continues, in yellow, with the track style dropouts. Plenty in stock in S, M or L.

The gunmetal was ace, though.

The gunmetal was ace, though.

Still a few of the trackend equipped Escapades left in medium in Gunmetal.
Roadrat now available in that finish.
The Champagne is deliberately quite similar to the Gunmetal. But different.
We liked it enough to want to do variants on it.

I've got my RR with drops and a short stem. Rides great. Not sure why road bikes have very long stems. I guess it's to counter the steep steering angle?

I've been getting a hankering to put it back into SS flat bar mode again as a hack about bike with the kids, so there could be room in my garage for an Escapade with full guards and pannier rack for the work commute.

Pretty annoying, as the new one fixes all the gripes I have with my year-old one. Might turn it into a singlespeed and swap the frame at some point :/.

I was hoping that the roadrat would have 70mm bb drop; does the 10mm make a difference?

Kinesis DC37 - flexy in a comfortable way, but otherwise fine 🙂
