That's another frame added to the list of CdA replacements!
Looked a couple of days ago and noticed the older ones were all out of stock. Hope you post pics of the purple one 🙂
That looks real nice in purple mate! 👍
I'm not a roadie, so could someone explain to me why Road/CX/Gravel/Adventure bikes need to have such long head tubes, uncomfortably high top tubes and stand-over height and a stem that points down? All seem so unnecessary to my ignorant eye....
Unless you fit flatbars, the entire riding position is different than any mountain bike.
This is a bike designed to be a comfortable cruiser rather than a twitchy rocketship, hence the geo etc is pretty relaxed.
Tasty!
12mm thru front axle. So is this a thing? Can my stans wheels be converted? Is it a roadie thing or will converted mtb wheels fit?
Still no XL size for us normal sized folks. Ah well saves me money.
Drop bars on a Large Roadrat with an MTB seatpost would sort you out reach wise. Talk to Paul or Cy about it @jeffl if you're after something long like that.
12mm bolt through is the road/cx disc standard. At least this week. 9mm not stiff enough 15mm too heavy.
As a happy coincidence it probably means you also need to buy another set of wheels.
edit - not Cotic’s fault, just another industry standard to deal with. The new Escapade is lovely, bit rich for my blood though for what would be a full time commuter.
And now the Escapade has carbon forks too. First the Roadrat now this. That's two bikes off my list of replacements for my ageing Kona.
That's a good looking machine, definately one to consider for the future.
Looks good. Should've been released in this form years ago. Could do with one or two extra sizes. Shame the cable routing isn't internal. The colours/graphics (the only thing that lets Cotic down IMO) are probably too child like and immature so may not appeal to serious roadies who wear Rapha.
These things are all relative. You think the colours and graph look pants, I think the look great. Can’t please all the people all of the time.
Sure you can just buy the frame bigblackshed, then you can spec you own forks.
You think the colours and graph look pants, I think the look great.
Are you twelve? 😉
Nope, I’m several times that age, but as my house contains three Cotics currently, I’m probably more representative of ‘core market’ than ‘everyone else’.
Curious, what do you think would look better? Personally I like brightly coloured bikes although I probably wouldn’t buy a car in such a colour scheme. From my point of view, there are many bikes I would struggle to consider because I view their colours as ‘boring’... I suspect we may be polar opposites on this... 😉
Edit: also see that my spellcheck seems to have done its best to render my previous comment illegible. My phone seems to have had a new inline checker recently that’s proving a PITA and needs more supervision than it used to.
I'm not being deadly serious, I have owned three of them in years gone by. I probably haven't seen every colour they've ever done, but the ones that stick in my mind are those flat blue/green/purple colours, combined with the wrap logo never did look right on a steel frame.
There was a recent BFe that came in a metallic dark red that looked pretty good and the new Soul in silver isn't bad. Years ago they used to offer a few different logos, maybe they should do that again for the road bike?
😂 we are pretty far apart then... my current bikes are matte duck egg, gloss Cotic green and matte process blue. The ‘red’ to my mind was one of the worst colours I’ve seen on a Cotic. I might agree about alternative wrap styles though, the old reflective would work well on an Escapade from my point of view.
I’m eying a mercury and orange Soul Mk5 but really quite tempted by either the purple or blue Escapade to replace my X (and bright orange Kinesis...!) - if I can figure out how c2w stuff works with Cotic now they’re direct. The only mention of it on their site refers buyers back to the dealer network which is obviously a nonstarter now.
Really like the purple. That’s a strong contender to replace the Full Monty
@vincienup - cycletowork has all just changed … nothing on the site explaining how yet … place an order (but hit PLACE PROVISIONAL ORDER button, so as not to pay online) and put a note that you want to use the scheme… Paul will then sort for you. I've made it so that he can print off a quote for the scheme with one click… they're letting people pay the extra over the limit now also… so not as limited with what you can buy.
Looks nice, but why the chainstay disc mount?
After this winters muddy commuting on a PX london road with a similar setup, that has put me right off!
@kelvin .... Thanks! wasn't actually expecting an answer on this thread, I was going to mail Sales@... on Monday to ask about it. No big rush for me - our c2w has defined windows, so I need to wait for one to open before I can order anyway unless you're willing to hold one for a few months! (this isn't a serious ask unless you're insane enough to want it to be!) I've just had a quick dig through the small print on our c2w and it looks like Cotic would need to register with them as a supplier anyway so I'll drop an email later rather than hijacking the thread completely! 🙂
Use Paul@
Noted. Cheese!
Has anyone got one of these that rides a more "traditional" road bike? The geometry figures don't look too far from my normal road bikes except with a massively sloping top tube?
How do they ride in comparison? And could you also race cross on one??
I’ve realised the flat calliper mounts and the additional cost means it’s definitely a more long term idea
Nice dog, is it a beddyxwhippet?
As per Jeff above - why no XL? Bit odd for a company that has XL's elsewhere in their range but both the Roadrat and Escapade look great.
