Chain broke while under no pressure on Sunday. I usually go KMC due to ease of removal for cleaning, but is there anything else I should look at?

Cheers.

Assuming 10 speed, then just get a KMC X10-93.

£17.75 from Wiggle and Amazon.

KMC every time here ! The way I look at it is... surely you can't a better chain than one from a company that only makes chains !! 😀

I've snapped both Sram and Shimano but never a KMC (even the SL ones, with slotted plates and hollow pins).

just for balance...

SRAM every time here !

I've snapped KMC (with only 150km of towpath and road equivalent riding, and that was with new chain, new rings, new cassette) but never a SRAM.

Personally I won't use anything other than KMC nowadays. Have snapped SRAM & Shimano, but never a KMC past four years on multiple (singlespeed) bikes and lots of miles.
