So inspired by the chain waxing thread, im about to put a new chain on my bike and got thinking about my lubing scheme.

Ive always put wet lubeon in winter and dry in summer. Have been looking at peatys premium all weather lub as a mix between wax and lube.

Few questions do you degrease before applying any lube onto a new chain. What are these chain wax like long term. When i go away during the summer for a few weeks im not going to be degreasing etc bike gets a hose and re apply are they any good for this or am i better sticking with my old set up

the putoline hot melt wax I have used for well over a decade exclusively.    One £35 tin lasted a decade.  I love it and find that it lasts far longer than any drip on lube, I find chain wear is much reduced.

Note a significant minority of those that have tried it get different results

I run the chain with the original lube in it until its dry then treat with putoline

New chains are waxed. No lube until the wax is gone.

It depends on your local conditions. I use Peaty's all weather premium year round. I particularly like how clean it runs and how well it runs itself clean with a fresh lube. I used to fart about with de-greasing, chains in rotation, etc, but now a quick clean with a hose spray, wipe and re-application does the trick of all those things.

The putoline wax evangelists will tell you that thay can ride to outer mongolia and back on 1 treatment, but it didn't work out like that for me and it was far more of a pain in the arse to apply.

Yes i have zero desires to be cooking a chain.

I like the idea of self cleaning chain lube.

My local spots are pretty loamy but heavy acid soil. Been using kingud for the last few years like the wet but not been overly impresed with the dry.
