A good friend of mine is taking the plunge on a career move to do something he truly loves and is passionate about.
If any of the good folk of STW are heading to the Wye Valley area next year for a holiday and fancy hiring an E-Bike then please give these guys a call, or if you want more info fill in the contact form.
They also hire Frog Bikes for kids and can do a drop off and pick up service.
Cheers folks.

Fantastic, I'll take up that offer when I take the wife who doesn't have an e bike.
Thanks

Bit late to the party?

Dean forest cycles and Pedal away already hire them, so he's entering a crowded market. We've also got Wye valley experience who offer canoe and bike hire, who I'm sure will be adding E bikes to the fleet at some point. You can also chuck Wyemtb into the pot, who might be thinking about adding E bike hire to their uplift service/guided rides portfolio.

I'm not trying to pour water on his fire, just pointing out that there is a fair bit of competition in the Valley and the FOD already.

Personally with two other bike hire businesses in the area its not exactly a crowded market and with alot of Wye Valley accommodation already fully booked for most of 2021 its a good opportunity for my friends business to establish themselves. As we are all aware interest in cycling has shot up this year and E-bikes are a significant part of that.
He does come from a business background of 20+yrs experience so hasn't gone into this with blinkers on but I get your point.
Only time will tell I guess but he's worked hard and given everything to a job that he doesn't enjoy so I really do want him to succeed.

@stuhawk

I hope it is a great success as well. Is he targeting the keen cyclist or just the casual/non rider?

Message me if I can help with more background information. I'm in the Wye valley near Tintern Abbey, which is the tourist hotspot. Plenty of opportunity for marketing in the local Pubs and cafes around here.

I’d love to have a day out in FOD on electric bikes.
Any idea on cost etc.
Will he provide GPS units with routes loaded?

Good luck to him.

I don't think it is a crowded market, you only have to go onto Airbnb and look at how much accommodation there is in the are and how many visitors the area gets to see there is plenty of business to go around.

It's currently very limited in information, so perfectly valid to ask the question.

As has been pointed out the finer details aren’t available on the website directly but if you fill in the contact details form and then add further comments in the box provided he’ll be more than happy to answer questions or queries.

Not sure what the plan is for them, but if it's just hiring they may well struggle, the other two in the area have bike shops, cafe's, etc to keep them going, looks like this one's based out the golf course, so is there room to develop and do other things, also looks to be wrong side of the hill to get to the family routes, cycle centre, etc, so will need some thought about that as well.

There is a few holiday parks nearby that might be worth tapping up, but i dare say it'll need a lot of time and thought to get this one going, as the tourist bits nearby are all things you wouldn't need or want a bike for.

Should add, hope they do well, there's a market there, but as we all know, FoD is a big old place that has key areas where tourists and people coming in congregate, if they were around Beechenhurst they'd do well, so a bit of thought will be needed to work out the best way of getting at those potential customers

@agree
I’m based in the Midlands myself so can’t say I have much knowledge on their exact location but I know they’ll be offering a drop off and pick up service if that suits the client. 👍

Sounds good, just need to get word of mouth out there and info, front page of their website should be shouting that out and giving a timescale, i.e. anywhere within the forest within an hour / 2 hours of booking, or have some drop off sites such as beechenhurst, speech house, cannop centre, cannop brook, etc.
