To keep a Long story short...I have only been riding trail centres and not too crazy downhill for a few months (chicksands, swinley forest etc....I came across a bunch of chaps using and expanding a downhill (nothing too crazy...few berms jumps and drops) new build...they say they will open it in the summer to new club members. Only to be riden by club members. Till then it will be for there use only. They built it and also went to the effort of getting permission from the land leaseholder....they kindly let me have a run down...due to time restraints I didn't push it anymore, did my Xc route and rode home.....I live right down the road from the new build.....what would you do in this situation? Ride it when there not there? Give them money to ride it? negotiate help with the build for ride time...ride in another location further away? Like I say I am new to this stuff so is there some etiquette to it?

Thanks in advance

Offer to help? Join their club?

Somebody has put time and effort in for the benefit of like minded people. It costs money for tools & time (not directly but people give stuff for free)
There is no harm in rewarding them, also by joining them you will have some people to ride with.

If you get caught riding it without permission then you may not get a friendly reception again.

It's normally fenced off with footpaths either side

then as above cough up, make friends and have fun.

Nobody likes the guy who slopes off when it's his round

Help out, or at least offer to or join the club. I'm sure they'll appreciate the gesture and may well just let you ride there for free if you're that local to the spot.

I hate it when I spend ages (sometimes months) of hard gruelling work building a trail somewhere only for someone to bring their mates and trash/flatten/dumb down/ it while I'm away. I am not for 1 minute suggesting that you do any of the above.

That's why I now build a long way from where anyone is likely to find them 😉
