I've wanted one of these frames for a long time. Briefly owning a later SS Inbred I was convinced I wanted to try one of the first batch that were built in the same factory as Surly and Singular.

This one is from the original (possibly only) run of 853 frames so is gusset-less and pretty light as are the forks. The frame is nicely finished (this is a repaint) there is oodles of clearance out the back and the skinny tubes took really out of place compared with modern steel frames (the TT of my Rooster aside).

I plan to get some proper decals of off Gil as these, whilst fine, aren't quite right.

Built up with largely period bits that I already had including my mk 1 V12 pedals that have been in service since 1998(?) the build as pictured weighs 22lbs and 7oz - not bad in my books.

In reality this will be consigned to infrequent use when the weather is nice as despite being large enough feels so small with its dinky wheels.

Flame away 🙂

I presume you mean the rear bit Flashy?

It needs to be a bit longer than ideal as the modulator thing "consumes" about 10mm of cable when fully (cough) pulled.

Wrong side of the post.

I'd missed the "modulators". Delete your account.

Lovely bike. But I'd go one further than CFh, shouldn't the rear cable routing be on the other side of both the seat post and the head post? The fixings appear to be aligned to the lhs of the top tube!

bike looks lovely. more red would spoil it IMO

That rear cable routing.....

it's an on one, all part of the charm. not one of the 5 on one frames i've had have had the cable routing correct!

I had one of the original 853 frames too, got it resprayed in a lovey sparkly midnight blue by Colourtech. Loved that bike.
