I seem to have lost all bite and braking ability in my rear SLX M675 brake. There is no spongy feel at the lever, that feels the same as it should, but when using it it barely seems to slow me down without a big effort and then a decent squeal right before stopping. I have changed the pads and rotor thinking they may be contaminated but now the new ones are the same. It does seem to work better in the rain? There are no obvious leaks at the piston but I’ve read the piston seals can go and are not replaceable. Could it be brake fluid leaking into the pads? If so could I still salvage the new rotor and is it new brake time?
Trevor.

New caliper, and clean the rotor. Much cheaper than a whole new brake.

Hmm, good call. Might have just found the only m675 calliper in stock. Is it just a case of unbolting the hose from the old calliper (keeping it vertical to prevent fluid loss) and bolting it back on to the new one?

The new caliper won't have fluid in so you will need to bleed it.

Is a new caliper much cheaper than a whole new brake? If there's not a huge difference you may as well get the whole brake as the seals in Shimano levers have been prone to failing too haven't they?

If it's less than 2 years old you should be able to get it replaced under warranty. It's a known problem.

It’s older than two years and second hand to me, sadly. A new caliper is between £25-£30. New complete SLX brake is £65 on CRC. The front is fine and I can’t find stock of the M675 in this country, the only alternative is the SLX M7000 which would mean mismatched front and rear brake levers. Probably change them both eventually but if it’s just one caliper for now?

Thanks for the offer Jake. Sorted with a new caliper now.

Try realigning the calliper, it's probably just not on straight. I had the same issue recently, removed and refitted straight and it's sorted. You may have bashed it on something to knock it out of line. If it squeals the calliper is obviously squeezing so not broken.
