I'm after some new brakes for my XC bike to run with my Sram XO shifters and am currently looking at either the Sram X0 or guide RS brakes.

I cannot find any reviews on the XO brakes but can anyone tell me whether these suffer with the same issues as Avids?

Would the guide brakes be a little over kill for XC race? any alternatives I should consider?

thanks people.

RS are great brakes - not overkill as they are a good weight (and powerful too)...

Got the guide RS on my XTC and they have been faultless for 500k so far-including some crappy weather. I was advised against the X0 brakes but not much help as I've no first hand experience.

Whichever shimano brake fits in your budget.

Guides are the only ones using the new lever, anything else will have the same issues. I personally think the guides are fantastic, they knock spots off my shimano brakes. Seem to be holding up ok. Always liked my x0 trails but the bleed issues made me swap to guides as they were great when working but needed a lot of attention.

For xc race I'd stick to xt though, x0 are lovely but have the bleed issues and the guides carry a bit more weight. Problem solvers do a mismatch adapter to run the shifters with xt brakes.

Replaced SLX with Guide RS 6 months ago and they have so far been faultless.
Bleed when I shortened the rear hose was straightforward, pads have lasted really well and they have boatloads of power but in a much smoother delivery than the rather grabby Shimano.
Have replaced wife's Deore with another set and so far (3 months) they have been just as good. Both sets have virtually identical lever feel, and consistency of power.
