Been waiting on a Transition Spur GX/Rockshox spec, Its arrived at the shop but its GX/Fox spec.
I wouldn't mind but did a ton of research over a few months and really wanted the Rockshox Sid setup. The Fox 34's are just too burly/heavy for me and its intended use.
What other lightweight forks are out there? I don't need need anything burly. I didn't notice the extra stiffness going from a Reba with QR to a Pike with 15mm Thru axle.
Or, I turn down the bike and continue searching for something I really want.
Given how often you seem to hear about issues with bushings in reviews of the Sid I'd probably take the FOX 34 over them tbh.
The Fox 34 has smaller stanchions than the SID if it’s the 120mm travel SID with 35mm stanchions. Same travel at 120mm - does the 34 weigh much more than the SID?
I guess you could always buy a SID and offset the value of selling the 34 if it bothers you that much?
The Spur has been hard to come by for some time now so it’s up to you if you want to wait even longer for the sake of a marginally different fork.
Just thinking out loud - haven’t the sidluxe shocks been known to have issues - with the fox spec you’ve probably got a more proven rear shock?
Edit - just googled and the weight difference between the 2 forks seems to be less than 100g. So I’d just crack on with the Fox spec I think.
Which Fox fork is it? Is it Factory Stepcast?
The Fox spec bike is nearly 1kg heavier than the Rockshox spec
Which Fox fork is it? Is it Factory Stepcast?
Fox Float 34 Performance Elite Fit 4
Whats the lightest 12mm Fox fork out there?
It’s 12.8kg vs 12.2kg. Is that really going to be hugely noticeable?
Looking through the spec the fox spec one has better brakes and a higher spec crank. Struggling to see where that extra weight is - little bit in the fork obvs - guessing wheels / hubs perhaps?
If that weight is a big thing then hold off and wait for the right spec I guess - if you’re not busting for the bike then seems a sensible approach.
I'd take the Fox over the RS and I say this as a Spur owner with the RS SID Ultimate C1.
The fork might not bother me particularly, but it looks on the spec sheet like it's not just the fork? The whole spec seems to be consistently a little burlier* meaning the bikes about 700g heavier overall? Depends what you'd actually rather, if you're dead set on a 26.something pound bike and a 28.something just isn't going to cut it then that's a deal breaker. If not and you can live with it, then it's probably not that different. You could maybe bargain for some extras, assuming the shop would rather sell the bike they have and throw in some lightweight tyres, saddle, pedals, grips etc.
*I presume it's not just cheaper, the stem's shorter so I made an assumption.
Whats the lightest 12mm Fox fork out there?
32mm Stepcast (they're all 15mm, I presume that's a typo by you), but that would be an equivalent to the SID SL, not the SID 35.
There's a 34 Stepcast which might be the direct comparison to the SID 35.
n.b. my body isn't optimized to the nearest 700g, so I don't expect my bikes to be. Your mileage may vary. If I made my bike 4lb lighter then I'd finish the ride slightly quicker and that leaves more time for eating cake.
Is the colour of the bike correct? The build sheets seem to indicate that the colours for the RS/GX are the 2022 colours and the Fox/GX are the 2023 colours...
Go with the Fox setup. I have last year's GX Spur and have had problems with both the shock (blown damper - 2 months warranty turnaround because SRAM were waiting on parts so had to buy a new shock to avoid the downtime) and the fork (bushing play after 1,600 miles - quoted 3 months turnaround for warranty repair, again due to lack of parts so just going to keep riding until they fall apart).
IMHO the Fox setup is a better match for this bike. I'll be replacing when I have some spare cash.
Fox 34 is great and mine is sub 1800g which is light enough. There are fox 34 stepcast if you want super light. Think merlin and CRC both had them relatively cheap.
The fox 34 you have is is 1738g, the SID select is 1671g, so naff all there, even the SID SL is 1527g and as above there are numerous reported issues with them, so the research can't have been that comprehensive.
The shop has been brilliant with helping me find a solution. We negotiated a couple of upgrades at a good price. (I had some upgrades planned for later in the year anyway) Changing the Fox 34 Performance to a Fox 34 SC, and some XX1 cranks.
Nice work - there’s a decent weight saving xx1 carbon cranks vs GX alloy ones - plus looks like the fork change is about 200g off plus maybe a lockout function?
So 350 gram saving ish and some more bling 👌
@mjsmke now go and buy some nice carbon hoops and knock another half a kilo off.

Already got some Roval Controls on back order.
