Potential coffers swelling work placement means it's nime for a new bike.

By my reckoning selling all my old bits would raise ~£800

A Pitch is £1700
A Mega is £899 (+£800 I wouldn't get selling the kit)

On the one hand slightly heavier bomb proof bike with parts I know and trust. But weighs ~35lb.

On the other hand, "new bike feeling", warrenty, ~30lb, but there's always the odd cut corner (cheep, headset and BB, heavy cassette) and that niggling feeling that sekotrs might not be as burly as my old Z1 RC2's, how good are the own brand rims, etc etc.

What would [s]Jesus[/s] [s]Chuck Norris[/s] STW do?

How soon do you want it? I do hope the mega makes it here for summer but I'm not holding my breath.

Well hotlines say 7th June for the mega, but if the new Ragley's are anything to go by then I'd expect this to be delayed. Imagine there are already a few pre-orders too so may need to wait for the next batch.

Hopefully someone from nukeproof or hotlines will pop up in a minute and tell me all is ok and they are on track to deliver a bumper batch in time for the summer 🙂

What would STW do?

hmmm
-The all-the-gear clique wouldn't consider either... too cheap.
-The Brant sheep would buy the Mega (that a Baaaa from me btw)
-The sensible shoes amoungst us would buy the Pitch as it's a great value bike which works well from all accounts.
-The Gnarr crowd would buy the Mega, just cause.
-The singlespeed/rigid clique are just looking down there nose @ you (as per normal), if they bothered to even open the thread that is.
-etc etc

It's up to you, no ones going to sway you in your decision, unless you want to be swayed, which means you already made your decision.
I had one of these decisions the other week & went with my heart. As I know that's what will make me happy, not financially sensible but is MTB-ing sensible?

z1ppy, good summary. Think I'm more Baaar than Gnaar 🙂

If you are off to Oz and need it quick then I reckon that'd rule out the Mega.

Hmmm, and the pitch does seem the more XC-heavy rather than DH-lite of the Mega, and I've no idea what the local riding wil be like in Oz, and much as I like the idea of a bike that climbs and decends well, I didn't get on with the steep seat angle concept on big climbs with the 456, and seems like it's been refined by making it even more steep on the Ragleys and now nukeproofs. Then again an i-beam seatpost gives the equivalent of about 8deg of adjustment.........

Why not pick up a s/h Pitch and customise as you wish?

Considered anything else? Maybe something like a Canyon Nerve AM 7 at that price. Maybe something from the classifieds?

Considdered that, ebay seems to have the ocasional pitch but they're either

comp - too much upgrading
large/x-large - too big
battered - I know I'd probably have it in the same state after a year but the price difference between new and battered is often less than a good service

New £1700, ebay £1000
shock and fork service, £200

new brake pads £20

new tyres £55

new drivetrain £70

etc.

And that's assuming no damage.

Guess the Titus FTM if you are looking for something sporty is a cracking deal, only 799 for the carbon one. May be a better match for the Z1's than the El Guapo. If it looks to steep then you could get an angleset with the cash saved and slacken the HA out to about 67 degrees.

Considdred a canyon, similar price/spec to the pitch but the pitch looks more refined and despite being imnesely popular I've not seen/heard of any brakeages.

Add resale value in to the wash. You allways get good money for a second hand spech.

also the spesh warrenty is 2nd to known, so if you did have issues I'd assume spesh australia whould sort it
(not dissing NP, but I doubt they have that sort of sized dealer network)
