New bike time?

I've had an Ibis HD3 since about 2018 - for XC/Trail stuff it's easily the best bike I've ever had. However, I've noticed the rear shock seems to turn to mush when hitting non-short moderately rough trails. Seems to be a well-known issue with the stock Float DPS shock. As no one makes shocks in the 7.875"x2.25" (200x57mm) size any more, the only option is to get a 2nd hand one. Which has got me thinking that it's maybe time to bite the bullet and get something newer that will be easier to get parts for.

I've been looking at the GT Sensor Carbon Pro LE for £2k - which seems like a very good deal, although it does seem a bit portly for a carbon trail bike (over 33lbs), and by all accounts the wheels are like soggy half-cooked pizzas, so I'd probably be needing to find some new (lighter?) wheels.

Any thoughts on whether the Sensor would be a decent bike to swap over to from the HD3? Any other bargains out there I should be considering?

Cheers,

K

I think coil would be way overkill for the kinda riding I do, but thanks for the suggestion

From what I've read it's not something that can be tuned out

How tall are you Kevin? I'm just about to list a medium sized Mondraker Raze Carbon R that I bought recently (2nd hand, but having only covered 10 miles), but sadly won't be able to use any time soon due to more pending surgery required as a hang over from my bowel cancer nearly 3yrs ago...

Did consider one of those GT Sensor's for some time for what it's worth... Great looking bike, geometry looks good too. They are a bit portly for a mid travel carbon full sus bike, but for the price that's easily forgiven...

Also about to list a few pairs of very nice 29er wheels for sale too (Mavic, DT Swiss, Chris King, Onyx, Hope) as have collected way too many over the last couple of years, and will only be keeping anything that's actually already fitted to a bike from now on...

I might be interested in some wheels, depending on exactly what you have and price

Hi guys. Got your PM's, sadly can't reply for 24hrs due to this forum's incredibly annoying "5 PM's max in a 24hr period" limitation...

Drop me an email... mbonnes AT gmail DOT com and i'll respond with more details...
