After various musings about buying a Stanton in various guises - looks like I've pulled the trigger on a Switch9er FS Ti frame and Ohlins TTX Coil - might switch it out for an EXT Storia though.

I have reservations about this bike, but.... I've wanted one for a while now and it's an itch to scratch.

Watch this space for the build and possibly the classifieds for a bargain next year 🤣. Pick it up Friday

Seeing if I can get the BB Code to work properly from Flickr - *edit, apparently not and I chopped half of it out at that

Might change the shock to an EXT Storia - erm, because they look nicer. Not decided on a bling build or mid range parts - probably mid range though. Might go with Lyrik Ultimates, not quite decided on Green or Electric Red, but leaning towards green. Won't be any anodised colours, just silver and black parts

Started the build, will post up when finished. Waiting on a few bits.

Gone just top side of mid spec with some XTR, E Thirteen Helix Race Cranks etc.

Currently using the wheels off my Ragley - Horizon Pro's with silver hubs

Looks good, I love silver finishing kit. Goes well with the Ti. Glad it seems to be making a comeback!

I think the spreadsheet was saying around 32lbs, will check later and do a proper weigh in when built

14.5kg, just under 32lb with pedals - guessing real world will be somewhere between 32-33lb

The tyres are 2.1kg, so could shave a bit there

That's a very nice looking bike indeed, seems like a pretty good weight for that type of bike too.

What does it ride like? Does it meet expectations, were reservations correct, etc?

Haven't finished it yet. Waiting to get a pivot axle from Stanton as changed all the pivot bolts from black to silver and one is stuck - can then fit the drivetrain. XTR brakes are stuck at customs as Mrs STR (apparently wasn't her) has lost the letter and the supplier aren't replying to my emails. Bars and stem that should have been a few days have now been 20 days, but I do have some I can use. Saddle will be getting changed - bought it as a bit of a quirky item to go with the forks - it doesn't go with the forks and looks a bit crap. Will probably have to change the spring too as apparently these like 35% sag and J-Techs coil calculator says I need a lighter one.

That is indeed a lovely thing.

I'd been very happy and settled with my stable ... But am starting to think what I can do to get myself one of those!

Always room for N+1 🤣

Wanted something slightly different - the ebikes cover my 'Enduro' needs, I have various hardtails (albeit was considering a Ti one). So, lightish mid travel (160f/140r) Ti FS it was - that and I've always liked the look of them. I'd hovered over a brand new one, but then they sold out - albeit they do the Switchback FS Ti, which can be run full 27 or mullet at 150 on the front

Coming in at around £4500 for the build (frame and shock were £2300) but that doesn't include wheels - this will be a summer bike and I'll throw them back on the Ragley for winter. A frame and shock from Stanton is around £3900 before you start, so looking at a £6-7k build depending on parts

Not sure I'm loving the e thirteen cranks.

I mean, I love the look of them, but they aren't really the silver I was going for, have a bit of a blue tinge - feel like I'm adding too many shades. Can't fit them properly as apparently they don't work with a Hope BB

Might go for silver Hopes instead.

EE Wings would look awesome, unfortunately just missed a set from the guy I bought the frame from, was selling them for £480. Not paying a grand for cranks though

Opinions?

Those are definitely ugly cranks. They’re not pretty enough for a bike like this.

Yeah, they generally get described as very good looking cranks and when I've seen them elsewhere, I think they look ace - I just think they don't suit this bike

No, that doesn't work at all.

I'd go with a black/dark crankset to contrast the frame and tie in with the stickers and rear end.

SLX are hard to beat. Spend the money where it makes an actual difference.

Currently got a 5Dev crank and titanium ring in my basket 🤣

Definitely going silver though (pedals have some black on them) - the sensible option would just be Hope

Feel like you might have the same issue with those, colour wise. Few stories of breakages with them too, and less than stellar support.

The yellow spring is spoiling it for me. Just looked at the EXT and I'm not sure that would match either, but would be a lot less obvious than the yellow one. The clash with the green forks is weired as you'd expect them to work together but I think the green on its own is fine but the yellow just doesn't work with the frame and Stanton colour. The logos one the NP wheels work really well!

Other than that it looks amazing, hope the crank colour works.

That's a poor picture tbf, had to do a screenshot. The colour 'should' be fine with the other bits I have. I have read about some breakages

I definitely wasn't sure about the Ohlins before I built it, but don't mind it now tbh. EXT's definitely work in all the pics I've seen though.

If I'd specced the frame, I wouldn't have had a gold logo, but not much I can do about that.

Cheers

5DEV cranks and Ti chainring arrived. Happy with them. They do work when you see the bike as a whole. Definitely an improvement over the E Thirteens. They are the R Spec ones and have been beefed up from the originals, so hopefully won't snap

Gusset Matt Jones signature bars 38mm rise and Oak 42mm stem.

Went down the same rabbit hole as the e thirteen cranks and bought stuff I liked the look of on the internet without really sussing out how it works look on the bike. That and the fact the stem is a completely different colour to the promo shots. That'll be getting changed for a silver Title stem. The bars can stay though, I like them even if they don't really go with anything else

So much for lightweight and so much for claimed weights on a spreadsheet

Weighing in at just under 34lbs with brakes and chain still to fit.

Must be the wheels, tyres and big NP DH pedals - my Ragley wearing the same bits of kit was weighing a couple of lbs more than other builds on here

Finished. Well, almost....

Gold chain is getting swapped for a silver Shimano. Headset cap is getting changed. Cable outer lengths need a bit of a tweak. Forgot to put one of the boots on the brake hose, so a trim, new insert and a bleed on the cards. Got to rethink the wheels/tyres because at 36lb it's a bit ridiculous for this build and they can be the only culprits.

Stanton internal routing is a dream - didn't spend more than 5 mins on any of the individual cables. No internal tubes, but the little plates they fit remove to make a decent sized holes.

12sp XTR was very easy to set up and index. Only running on an SLX cassette at the moment.

Forks need setting up, need a slightly lighter spring and as mentioned the brakes will need a bleed. Pedals nicely up the road, just want to lose that couple of pounds to make it a bit more sprightly

PNW Loam lever matches the forks perfectly - got some colour matching right at last 😂

First ride yesterday. Fit seems good, albeit a little taller and shorter than I've been used to of late. First leg powered ride for a while and never felt uncomfortable. Blew out of my arse a bit but didn't feel quite as unfit as expected

Climbs amazingly well, zips along single-track like a demon, need to do some suspension tweaks and play with tyre pressures as a bit rattly on the rough stuff. But then it's a 140mm very progressive rear end. Got to think of it sitting somewhere between my HT and my electric Enduro sleds - which is what I was aiming for really. It's really agile

XTR shifts like a dream even with a KMC chain and the XTR brakes seem absolutely amazing - read a lot of things about them being on/off, but I found them easy enough to modulate yet anchor up when required

Overall, very happy, just needs a few rides/tweaks to get the sweet spot I reckon
