* well to me
**an Orange 🍊
I’m now one step closer to fulfilling the full STW life by owning a piece of hand built Halifax office furniture 🗄️.
It’s old, but so am I.
It’s a little tired, but so am I.
But it’s got loads of life left in it, but so ………

So this is a ~2014 Orange Gyro with a Suffolk mountain destroying 110mm of travel paired with a frankly unnecessary 120mm of Pike loveliness.
It is in very good condition given it’s age and looks to have seen very little use.
As a general hoarder who likes the simplicity of 10 speed this is largely period correct. All items bar a longer rear hose are recycled from the parts “bin” and once I have a bit of a sort around will have a nice XT 10 speed crank rather than this witchcraft 11 speed nonsense.
The SussedOut suspension boys were doubly quick in the turn over of the tiny rear shock that I cannot believe had ever been serviced but worked just fine if a little wheezy. Now the only wheeze comes from me.
For an XL it’s a remarkably small frame but with its unfashionable 80mm stem and layback post it will be fine for a bit of bimbling around Thetford and Brandon.
Now just need to wait for some dry weather so I don’t have to change that front tyre!
I now just need to find an Audi wagon that I can adorn with a (Volvo) Thule roof rack and I will be one step closer* to full STW stereotype 🤗
Uploading photos this way is 👌🏻
I already own a number of Hebroco “garms”
I love a low profile tyre; but an Ardent Race on the front..? Brave man.
I had an Orange Segment last time I was in Thetford. It was perfect round there!
That looks a lovely bike, hop you enjoy it
Looks mint. Enjoy.
Frame off ebay a few weeks back? If so I originally won it but then sent it back because the bits of corrosion around the cable holes weren't mentioned. Re-listing did so kudos to the seller for that.
Had planned a similar build to you for XC duties. Enjoy!
@chestrockwell - I’m guessing the same frame then! It did lead to it being a bit of a bargain!
I scraped the corrosion back a little and touched it up/in. If I like it I may pay it some more attention!
Nice, one, glad it's gone to a good home! I umm'd and ah'd but decided I'd probably want a re-paint which didn't fit in to the budget build plans. Looks ace now and Orange still have the decal kits if you need some.
I feel ill just looking at it.
Enjoy.
Nice, Still miss my old Five29 I'll always have a soft spot for single pivot Orange.
I like the gyro, that looks class, does need a dropper though. I've a MK2 segment that is way more bike than I need.
@saccades - I have a non stealth Reverb that I’ve played around with when building this up that may replace the Thomson but the cable routing is not great - I may look for an external brand X but I’ve got to ride it first!
Super bike - I got to test ride one around Comrie red and thought it brilliant.
Stealth ad....i have a very lightly used Medium in black if any one is interested.
Cane Creek DB air shock and a -2° headset. I have Pike 140mm or Fox 120 for it.
Stealth ad….i have a very lightly used Medium in black if any one is interested.
Get thee behind me Satan!
And as is tradition, there's some nasty salting on that brickwork OP.
From your aspiration list do you all ready have the log-burner, VW scene van and espresso machine?
First ride out today on this around the mountains of Thetford (Brandon).
For a largely wheels on the ground type rider that coupled with the incredibly harsh ( 🤭 ) conditions that make up the Brandon trails the ride was quite a revelation.
Enough travel to take the sting out of some sections but nothing wallowy about the ride. I was surprised by how fast the bike felt.
Debonair upgrade on the Pike has transformed the fork.
A few bits that need tweaking …… a clutch rear mech is needed and I may have forgotten to fully tighten the cassette - amazing what “tightness” you can achieve with the 2.5mm allenkey on a Lezyne multi tool 🫣
Lack of bottle cage mounts meant I rode with a Camelbak, which in the heat was horrible and I can still taste Milton - I’m going to need to look at how I can retrofit a bottle.
Only one pic as it’s almost the same as above ☺️
