A friend has asked for my opinion on a new 2011 Carera Fury as possible new bike.
600 quid, gets good reviews and seems like it would suit his needs but has anyone spotted any sale bargains anywhere that could be better for the money?
The Boardman comp looks pretty good for the dosh too.
26" or 29" wheels large frame aimed towards trail and xc riding.
Thanks in advance!
I was asked the same q the other day.
These look good.

Merlin are doing 'VAT free' offers on several makes this weekend, and if you join their VIP scheme you can cet more discount.
Kona, Commencal, Merida and someone else.
IMO he'd be better off on a secondhand decent hardtail
hora - MemberIMO he'd be better off on a secondhand decent hardtail
+1
Second hand may be a good option but I wouldnt want him to buy one on me recomendation because he would have no comeback if something went wrong if thats makes sense.
Not saying I wouldnt go second hand if I were buying it for my self though
It would have to be the Carrera or the Kona Blink:

And because it's steel, and a Kona, it's got to be the Blink.
Blink looks good but I dont think 18" is going to big enough.
He's got to be at least 6.1"
I think you can get 2010 Kona Five-0s for that sort of money.
Huge fork, great lookin', hardtail simplicity.
Voodoo Bokor is a good bet.Not sure but Voodoos had 20% off earlier this week in Halfords.
My wife recently bought a Kona Caldera from Paul's Cycles - pretty much the same as the Blink but with an ally frame. It's very nice. Around £550 I think it was. I think they may only have had 18" ones though.
Caldera's are nice. Petty the Blink isn't in a large size.
Thanks for all the tips guys. Popped round to see my mate tonight and halfords have got 20% off carreras this weekend which may have swung the fury. At 480 quid you can't really go wrong.
Still 20% off vodoo could be good. Theres a couple of 29ers in the range too which could be interesting
i've got a friend with a Fury (albeit a 2010 one), very good, no frills bike.
I really wanted to slate it as a 'halfrauds bike', but apart from the Avid Juicy 3s (worst brakes in the universe, ever) it is absolutely fine. Even the Suntour forks on it seemed fine.
It seems that the world has moved on and old 'names to avoid' have become acceptable.

The next one up has a better fork, but they only have it in a small frame.
im looking at a very similar market at the mo, considered, rockhoppers, fury, and voodoo models as i couldnt spend £600 on a second hand bike, i know you get a lot more for your money ect but for me £350 is my used limit.
I dont earn enough to buy a brand new car or motorbike so would be nice to own a new bike.
