I bought my son a decent spec Orange 5 used bike. It has a seemingly quite fancy and pricey Cane Creek DB Air shock (not the exploding one) which I believe is 190x50. Also hope cranks, Renthal cockpit, XT gears, rockshox Pike RCT3 & Hope hubs with 27.5 EX511 rims (rims are new).
I think he might have grown out of the bike so mulling over next purchase. I suppose it would be sensible to keep the bits and get a new, modern frame but the shock size may be the hurdle. Also (booo), its a 2016/2017 with a 142 rear axle and non-boost forks. Forks can be transplanted for the time being but the rear wheel will need a new hub probably (definitely) for new standards.
But some of those frames on CRC look good value and include a shock. I don't think the bike would fetch much second hand (not a stealth ad BTW) so maybe just butcher what I'd need off the five and get a new rear hub?
Or sell the 5 and get a new bike but that is quite a pricey option?
you're unlikely to find a new frame without a shock in the right shocksize so I'd just buy something complete and a new hub
Just buy a frame and shock and boost adapters for your rear hub. Job jobbed.
Forget the shock. Those 5s use an odd ball size, so I’d be amazed if you found a more modern trail/enduro bike that uses the same
Shocks are all metric now, so very hard to find a new frame that's 190x50
Hub is a minor issue, easily boost conerted.
And however hard to sell the frame, selling without shock will be even harder. Sounds like decent kit that's work keeping, i'd grab a CRC frame.
Geometron G13 take a 190*50mm shock
Not super helpful, there aren't many about.
Easy and not expensive to convert to boost

I would think you would still get a decent price for the frame
If you can find a frame that need a 50mm travel shock then it may be possible to lengthen the i2i of the shock with a different eyelet.
