Currently running SS fully rigid. I don't see much mud where I am and what I do see normally dries and falls off within a the first few Km's of next ride. Chain gets oiled, Brooks gets proofed and that's about it. Everything stays tiketyboo and nothing squeaks. Just how I like it.

It's been a while since I've run shocks. Z1s used to need an oil change every so often and that was it. Most parts used to break before they wore out.

I'm now looking at a Horsethief 1. How much maintenance is required to keep it running sweet? What can I do myself? What is the running cost of SRAM X0/1?

Is it going to turn into ballache?

Wash your bike. Add lube.

Maybe service the forks once a year, if you don't ride more than twice a week.

Same for the shock.

In a couple of years, replace the frame bearings for not very much cost.

Buy a new cassette and chain, when they wear out. Maybe buy a new front ring, of you've left it too long. Probably in 12 months. Or just run it all until it does, and replace all at the ame time in a couple of years.

So not much difference, just ship all the bouncy stuff off to Loco once a year to deal with.
