Thinking of getting rid of a few bikes and getting one instead. I(think) I'm looking for a burly trail, slackish short travel 29er along the lines of the Transition Smuggler, Banshee Phantom. What else fits the bill?

What are you laughing at? Work in a bike shop perchance?

The OP asked about

burly trail, slackish short travel 29er

And you recommended a 6.5" endurognarpoon. Hardly short travel!

I'm thinking the same as OP, and having ridden a Pivot Mach 429 recently I'm struggling to see past it. It was tremendous.

This pleases me immensely, for reasons I shall share soon 🙂

Orange Segment or Stage 5, Whyte T129, Process 111?

I have a large Process frame to sell if you're interested, the seat tube is nice and short so would suit someone who usually took a large or a medium (like me).

I really loved it, it's probably the most fun bike I've owned and has so much character. It's a bit of a one-off, a proper short travel enduro bike.

So why am I selling it?

It's not the lightest or best-pedaling bike and I wanted something with a bit more contrast from my long-travel 650b bike.

I did a write-up here: http://unduro.co.uk/mtb/review-kona-process-111/

Sorry Wrecker, I assumed you were taking the piss recommending a 27.5 160mm travel "enduro" bike and no I don't work in a bike shop.

I have ridden the Mach 429 trail which is a great bike. I was stuck between choosing the Banshee & Transition & ended up with the Smuggler, mainly because I got a better deal, it is a great bike too

I'm a bit fan of Transition bikes (I have one) so another vote for that.

A friend who is a good rider and rides around FOD and south Wales highly recommends his Whyte full suss think it might be a T130? I know its a 29er and has 120-130 ish mm of travel.

Other bikes I've read about and sound interesting but not had any experience with are Trek Fuel EX, Orbea Occam TR and PYGA.
