As per title, would appreciate some suggestions please.
She has a rigid hybrid at the mo. Fine for canal and cycle paths but as our kids get older want to do more mountain biking (obviously).
The next few years will probably be spent on green and blue trail centre trails (glen tress, CYB), easy bridleways (yorkshire, dales and lakes) and forest tracks.
Thinking maybe a plus rigid or a hardtail? Something comfy she can ride all day and goes up hills well.
She is 5'3" and budget would be around £1k.
Any suggestions??
Seems a fair swap.
Oh, sorry, misread that...
CFH, I thought the same. Pics showing age, condition and mileage?
Mwahhh.
Calibre bossnut. FS, womens's specific, reasonable quality
650b+ rigid bike? Marin Pine Mountain or something?

Be patient with wanted ads for a good one, it is worth it.
£750 bought mrs_oab this second hand last month:

We sold a pretty good condition Trek Superfly 6, only a year old, for £625.

Matt, what size is that Lust please? Mrs Ready is also 5'3, and she has her eye on one. Does it fit well?
It's XS, as was the Trek. Both @13" equivalent. Mrs_OAB is 5'. The kink in the seatube only lets the seat down about another 2cm from where it is - and also can only go up about 3cm to the minimum insertion, so you do need to be accurate on sizing. It is a tad shorter yet lower than the Trek.
Mrs_OAB on the thing.

Pinnacle Ramin 3+ while you can still get them. Love mine for xc riding and with a change to wider gearing goes uphill very well. I changed the 11-36 cassette to a 11-42 and put a narrow wide 30T ring on the front. I'm 5'6" and I think the small would probably be ok at 5'3"
Edit - just looked and only the small available so guessing you'd need to be quick to get one.
For some reason I keep ‘hearing’ the thread title in the voice of Papa Lazarou...
Thanks all. The Marin and the Pin look like top contenders. Will keep an eye on the classifieds too as picking up a full suss cheap may work well.
DAAAAAAVE...
MrsbeanZ is 5'2" and rides a T130 , shes also had an Orange five .
There's a T130 xs on ebay , nothing to do we me but saw it when nosing around .
My advice, for what it’s worth, is to buy her absolutely the best bike possible. One that you’d be happy to ride yourself. The second hand option will get you more spec, probably lighter weight and maybe even full suss all of which might add to her enjoyment of riding. Mrs OABs wee bike there looks like a bargain!
I have a T130. It is ace. Can't see a reason not to have 2 in the house:)
Yeah agree GKW. The priority is to ensure she likes it so we can spend more time out riding as a family. If i have to throw money at the problem then so be it.
Our kids (like most) love cycling at the mo so am keennto encourage all the family to ride more .

This.
Back in the '90s I foolishly bought a shiny new Saracen for mrs_oab - heavy, heavy and odd / too big shape for her.
I then managed to get her a 13" Orange Clockwork - great shape of frame that actually fitted, but still so heavy.
Finally we tracked down a Cannondal F900SL - great shape, mega light, powerful brakes, good gears, money for a saddle that was actually comfy etc. It transformed her attitude to mountain biking from OK and did it to get out with me to her wanting to ride.
The Trek was merely a replacement for the 18 yr old Cannondale, but we have been hankering after a FS for a while for her, and that one was too good an opportunity to pass up, even knowing had a couple of issues that need sorting.
Get a bike that FITS and is LIGHT for someone so petite - worth the hassle and wait for a good one.
