This is going home with me tonight, a 2015 Genesis Equilibrium Disc 20. I love my current Equilibrium but fancied going disc as I commute through the winter. I have a bit of spannering ahead of me tonight swapping the Ultegra and carbon bits from the old bike to the new then fitting guards but I should then have a bike I can use all year round.

Report back with how you get on with them there Aksiums - had been holding off getting some do-it-all commute wheels until these came out but, although the price is tempting, I'm struggling to see past the 2kg quoted weight..... and the Ksyrium equiv is a bit too spendy at ~£800 a pair....

Nice but that rear brake cable routing/tidying up is terrible. And a silver chaisnet on a yellow bike, what were they thinking.

I have to agree on the silver chainset, the grey Ultegra looks much better. It's ready for tonight's dry commute and guards will go on at the weekend.

Someone's nicked the motor off the top of your compressor!

And your fire extinguisher...looks suspicious. Lovely bike though.

Lol, are you kidding us with this? It's like a spot the difference quiz.

Lovely bike by the way.

First impressions of the Mavics is not as bad as I expected. Your figure of 2kg was playing on my mind as I set off and I was expecting sluggish leaden performance from them. They actually roll along nicely and although you can feel the weight when the road points upwards I think mine will be staying on over the winter at least.

It's all changed bar the frame and wheels, hasn't it?

I've just been looking at those wheels - almost 2kg a set. Don't suppose you've managed to have a play with the Ksyrium discs yet...?

Brakes look like TRP HY/RD.

They certainly are TRPs. I would like to be able to adjust them to have slightly less lever travel than they have but besides that they work nicely. I've covered 60 miles on it already and am getting used to the change. Although as soon as the Shimano 685 hydraulics are available in the UK the TRPs will be going.

I'm torn on the reflectors. Yes they look awful but as this is my commuter through the winter I am thinking extra visibility is a good thing. But are they actually any use when vehicles are approaching from the rear on country lanes? Probably not.

How come you didn't just for frame only if you're changing everything?

Because I couldn't get disc wheels or brakes until late December and I wanted a new bike now. I am an impatient little so and so.

Also all the 105 and finishing kit from the yellow bike will go onto the calliper brake Equilibrium that this bike replaces and then will be sold off. There is method to my madness somewhere.

I am riding at least one way every day and both ways on Tuesday. So it's around 150 miles a week.

Crank should be pointing downwards at a 45 degree angle.

Hey Mister P!

How have you been sting along with the HYRD brakes? Did you switch to the Shimano Hydros?

I have the '14 Equilibrium disc, and I'm looking to ditch the Hayes CX brakes in favour of some TRP Spyres/HYRDs…

Let me me know how you found your HYRDs - and if you fancy selling them!

Cheers - Rick

I'm still using the TRP callipers, haven't got round to swapping to Shimano yet. I had a bit of teething trouble with getting them set up but they work well after fiddling. They don't seem to self adjust for pad wear that well, as the pads wear then the levers come back a little more. The stock pads disappeared really quickly but sticking some Shimano pads in improved braking and pad life loads. Overall I'm happy with them, hence why I haven't rushed to change them. However I could be tempted to sell them as we have Shimano brakes in stock now and they keep winking at me! Drop me a line mark.pearson AT madison.co.uk
