New bike delivered yesterday. Well packaged and no damage to box.

Unfortunately, the frame has a notable chip of paint missing - looks like tool dropped on it during assembly or frame itself contacted something before packaging.

The other issue is that the front brake hose was not properly connected into the lever...first squeeze and mineral oil everywhere.

The bike will get frame chips during use and not a big issue to properly connect the front brake and re-bleed to be 100% sure it is safe.

The company the bike was bought from are one of my favourite bike shops - decent prices, good delivery and good to deal with.

So...think I shall just sent them some pics so they can perhaps have a look at their bike build and pre-shipment QC and see what they have to say.

No, ours was the last one they had in stock in the correct size.

Seems a reasonable first step, as you don't seem too bothered about the problems and they haven't got that model in stock, perhaps with a bit of luck they'll offer you vouchers or similar.

It's always the correct first step to contact them and see what they come back with.

Oh, definitely - I wasn't saying ask for vouchers straight off, my apologies if I gave that impression. Leave it ambiguous about what action you're planning on taking & what result you expect.

Disappointingly sensible and pragmatic approach. I'd be expecting them to offer you some deal/compensation in return.

To be honest I would fit the hose properly bleed the brake and get out there riding 30 minutes later after a quick check of everything else.

Life is too short.

They might offer goodwill refund on a frame chip, but seriously its a mountain bike its going to get them. I think CRC etc. usually offer to pay a couple of hours labour at a LBS to fix minor things, but you are much better off learning how to bleed a brake yourself.

Post them a photo of a frozen toilet sausage, so they know your serious.

I'd drop them an e-mail with pics and explanation and see what they say.
I'd be hoping for a voucher or 2 in truth.

I'd sort issue with brake and carry on. Swings and roundabouts and all that.

my apologies if I gave that impression

Aimed much less at you sorry than the 10 threads/per day asking just how nuclear to go over x y z problem that actually might not be a problem if they "spoke" to the shop first instead of sticking it straight on faceache and the like.

Still at least this year being what it is has ensured very few "I missed my holiday because [s] of my poor planning and preparation[/s] crc didn't deliver pre 9am on a £20 bottom bracket I ordered at 16.00 yesterday when I checked the bike over to pack it for a 13.00 flight today. Crc should refund me the cost of a week's mtb in Spain, flights, coke, hookers and emotional distress" threads.

I'd ask them for help with getting the brake fixed. Would resit returning it and suggest either supplying a bleed kit or asking them to cover costs of an LBS fixing it.

Photos of the chip! This is the most important thing this thread needs!

It depends on where the chip is for me. If I can see it when riding, I'd be annoyed - if I can't then I woudln't be bothered.

6 people from 2 households and 2m apart makes the mobs a bit, well, not mobs really.

My mate had something trivial* on his Decathalon (last in that size in the UK) that he reported to them and they gave him a £50 voucher. *probably a paint chip, can't remember now

Sounds like you’ve got the right approach OP. I’d be doing what you’re doing. Photos and a polite mail regarding potential issues with dispatch QA.

I had a similar issue with a new bike from a similar shop. They were gutted and gave me an instant £75 for the mark (on a wheel), There’s your benchmark

I'd demand a full Argos respray and complete set of Hope e4s.

Maybe.

Evans gave me £50 off when i picked up my new bike and it had a chip in the paintwork. This was just after Ashely took over, I don't think that would happen now

An update if interested.

Seller responded quickly and suggested I box the bike back up and they would arrange collection.

I suggested that a goodwill gesture (credit, voucher) to get the brake bleed locally and likewise an appropriate goodwill gesture for the frame damage (both issues evidenced by good pics) would be a good outcome, given it avoids courier costs for them (which would exceed the cost of a local bike shop checking, replacing the olive and bleeding), seemed like an appropriate path forward plus avoids us being without the bike and also means that I would use any credit or vouchers with them going forward.

However, I have been guided that the bike must be returned so their mechanics can check and rectify. TBH, no idea how they are going to rectify the frame damage without a repaint, given there are no stocks of the bike in the correct size remaining.

We'll see where this goes...if anywhere.
