My new bike arrived today, a YT capra 27.5 CF pro in size large (In red). I've just assembled it over lunch, all looks good, except for a little chip out of the paint on the driveside chainstay - the first of many I expect.

Wont get to ride it for a couple of weeks I expect , but observations so far:-

- It weighs 14.1kg without pedals - pretty much bang on YT stated weight for a size large

- The e13 TRS+ rear tyre looks like it will be slooooow rolling, but I'll give it a few goes

- Gear shifting on the e13 wide range cassette feels good riding round the garden

- Fox transfer dropper feels fine, relatively light action on the lever

- The rims come with valves to convert to tubeless - which I will do later

- The rubber protector under the bottom bracket wasnt stuck down properly, have stuck it down now - hopefully it will hold.

- I might change the 203mm rear brake disc for a 180mm one - I've always found 203mm discs on the rear a bit grabby - but I'll try it first

- size wise - I'm 5 foot 10 , and the size large feel perfect for me.

- The brakes come set up euro style, ie front on the left, but swapping them round is just a case of unbolting the levers and moving them over.

What bike/size did you have previously?

Are the Capra's still a bit short compared to others?

I think that the standover height of the new capras are so low that you basically pick the size frame that has the reach you want

They seem to have rectified that to an extent, the new capras have a much shorter seat tube, and longer reach, so you can now choose between 2 or 3 sizes depending what length reach you want. They're still not crazy long, but definitely more contemporary these days and in line with most of the competition.

Plus they now do an XL & XXL size, so everyone should be able to find something to fit.

Large is 460mm reach, with a 455mm seat tube.

I think they should rename the sizing , withthe small becoming extra small, medium becoming small,, large becoming medium etc.

Will see if I can find a way to post a photo.

That looks great - love the bold red frame & minimal graphics - kind of reminds me shape wise of a toy bike.

How's the CF Pro 2 months in Julians? I'm looking at these and seriously considering finally moving on from my beloved (but little wheeled) 2012 Mega..

At 6'0" I'm bang in the middle of L/XL.. How is the sizing on the large? Large is sold old out in the blood red but being a geordie I'd probably go with the magpie colour scheme anyway

Cheers

Nick

It's good, no significant issues to report. Just a few minor things-

- the rear brake needs bleeding when you get the bike, I think the assembly process at yt introduces air into the system

- the cables rattle where they enter the frame in the headtube, this can be fixed by pushing the rubber grommets further in.

- I changed the rear tyre to something faster rolling.

- I changed the rear brake rotor to 180mm one, I felt the 200mm one that came with the bike was a bit grabby

-you need to use the climb switch on the shock,if you don't the bike feels quite inneficient when climbing, with the shock in climbing mode I'm setting pr's up a lot of climbs.

-still tweaking rear suspension trying to find the best setup for descending, it's very progressive and I haven't bottomed it out yet. I'm playing with volume spacers,it comes with 6 out of 7 installed, I'm down to 3 at present.

Ps I'd say at 6 foot you want to be on an XL, but sizing is a personal thing.

Everything else works well -

-the SRAM code rsc brakes are great, really really good

- the E13 cassette shifts smoothly and cleanly, and gives great gear range.

- fox 36 fork is really good as you'd expect.

-no issues with the wheels, they're round and are still straight/true

- the fox dropper post works fine, same feeling as my old reverb really

Overall I'm very pleased with the bike, it is a very confident descender, and goes uphill well enough (if you use the climb switch) and ditch the E13 rear tyre.

That's awesome, thank you for the comprehensive review Julians!

Interesting point around the sizing scale being a bit off (going from S > XXL) - completely agree it needs shifting. Previously I've erred on the small side with bikes (Mega is a Medium) but looking at the size tables I think XL looks about right.

Also interesting to hear about the shock volume spacers. I've never had a fox shock before. I've also never used any of the E13 bits so great to hear you're getting along well with these.

I'm glad you're pleased with the bike! It looks like an absolute belta!

Cheers

Ive been looking at these, Ive previously had a large Tues which was great. Friend has a L and at 6'0 I would definitely want an XL but the seat tube length would mean max 150mm dropper.

How much ??? I'm 5'10 (and a half but stumpy legs)...

A nice bloke let me sit on his 2017/8 Medium last weekend which he'd gone for because of the dropper length?

He had a 125mm on and it was pretty much 100% for me...I just got a frame anyway but was looking at a Capra as the next real bike.

The seat tube on the 2018 medium 27.5 capra is 450mm long, and the bike comes with a 150mm dropper.  I have my dropper raised out of the seat tube by about an inch and a half, So I could use a 170mm dropper if I really wanted. So unless your legs are really really short I'd say you'd be fine on a large capra.

I could have fitted fine on an XL model, but I wanted the option to really lower the seat for those really steep occasions.
