You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Another new Ripmo day. Maybe not as up to the minute geo as the AF or V2, but I reckon this V1 frame I picked up discounted from Start Fitness is going to be a great trail bike.

Moved most of the bits over from my Hightower then bought the 21 Lyriks from R2bike. I know they don’t strictly colour match, but I like them. Already had red Hopes from my HT so it was never going to be entirely colour coordinated anyway. Kinda works though. I’ll probably copy @Alex and get a 210mm One Up dropper in a couple of months (or less).
Bought almost a month ago but only finished the build today due to brake hose issues and a faulty X2 that took an age to get repaired due to COVID delays.
Ps: I have a 760mm Renthal Fatbar with a 30mm rise on 31.8 in the classifieds if anyone is interested.
Nice! I've also been eyeing those up, also as a Hightower (v1) replacement..
@frogstomp I think it’ll work well for that. Feels more responsive anyway. My HT was an XL and this is a L which might have something to do with it.
Fearsome ugly combination of coluurs.
Get someone to spray the orange ripmo bits red?
puh-puh-puh-pleeeeze?
You can't see the colours while you are riding up or down hill.
I think it looks....
Fully Operational 🙂
Like it.looks good .just get some red grips.enjoy
My Ripmo AF is amazing so yours will be perfect for the type of riding you described.
I’ve become a proper Ibis fanboi in the last week since getting mine 😀
If you wanted to change the colours of the down tube there are plenty of places that will make stickers up for you.
Love my Ripmo V1, I'm on a large too. I recommed getting invisframe for it
@zerolight and I have been having a few chats in the DMs. I quite like the red forks. Bike looks good, and you’re in a great part of the country to ride it.
V1 v V2… hmm. I’ve not ridden the V2 for long (and it was my mates AF so it was pretty heavy compared to the carbon version). It’s certainly a more ‘solid’ feeling bike. If I’m honest probably too much for me. I love my V1, recently ticked over the 4000km in two years of ownership and had a brilliant day on it in the FoD yesterday.
Anyway, please report back when you’ve given it a proper ride!
If I can be arsed I’ll order some decals from stickers to make the frame blue/pale blue instead of blue/pale blue/orange. I probably can’t be arsed.
This was the plan when I built it up. Not sure I have the patience to apply stickers though. Stikrd seem to have done a few Ripmos so should have the sizing.

One year on and I still love this bike. I caved and bought Fox 36s for it this week and am very impressed with them too.

@zerolight it still looks fantastic!
Glad you are loving it.
You prefer the 36 to the lyrik ultimate?
@bobodaclown yeah, I like the 36 a lot. It feels just as supple over small stuff, but much more supportive, rides higher, and doesn't dive under braking so much. And if I'm honest, as shallow as it is, I think it makes the bike look better, the red fork didn't quite work. 😀
@zerolight that's fair enough the black does look nicer on the frame.
Interesting re less diving and by the sounds of it a more supportive ride.
Enjoy
Nice. Love my Mk1 Ripmo. Have thought about selling it a few times as I fell out of love with cycling but, back on it now and so glad I didn’t.
Colours are weird. It’s a bike that gets muddy and you don’t see it when riding so colours shouldn’t matter. But but but 🤣
Can't believe that people are worrying about the colour of the bike/ parts FFS.
And loads of pictures in your bloody garden. Never mind that shit tell us how it rides. Tell us what amazing routes you've done with it.
Tell us how it glides over lake District rock gardens and leave you with a huge grin on your face every time you get in the zone...
Never mind the red/ orange/ match/ changed a set of £800 forks because I didn't like the colour bollocks.
FFS
I don't think the red bits are an issue now, the dial on the shock is red so it's a theme, that would be my excuse anyway.
I also had a lot of red bits then my next frame was blue n orange, but I had gold brake mounts to make matters worse, I've found blue anodising is more forgiving for future clashing issues, having more bikes to chop n change bits also helps 😀,
Congrats, a year on and I can't see a single scuff.
Thanks guys. No marks on it yet. Though I have been over the bars once around November. 🙂 Bike survived without a scratch!
I didn't really see the red as a big deal either, but deep down I really wanted to the Fox 36, so the red was a nice excuse to push me to the 36s. Hehe. Won't be swapping out the Red E4s though - they've been with me across 3 bikes and 7 years and still going strong.
@twonks I did the same thing - considered selling it. I'd lost my mojo over the winter after going over the bars when I lost the front end in mud, at speed. Was spending a lot of time on the road bike after. The Mrs talked sense into me and I'm glad I kept it as I've spent so much time with it this year since the weather improved and found my mojo again.
@thegeneralist when I'm out on the trails I'm too busy riding to take photos. It lives on the West Highland Way and John Muir Way mostly, because it's on my doorstep so I can get a varied ride of around 55km easily every weekend. Climbs very well for a big bike - slower maybe than my Trigger 2 was, but I suspect that's my fitness. Goes down really well, eats up big chunky stuff better than my Hightower did, gives me a lot of confidence (being a natural coward) and feels incredibly nimble for a 29er. I'd love to take it to Glentress but it's a bit of a trek.
On selling £800 forks - with the current environment I lost £70 on thr Lyrik and then bought what I feel is a much better fork, that's way more controlled and supportive than I got out of my Lyrik, whilst still feeling plush and sensitive. Not sure that was just about colour.
Edit:
My usual loop...

I think thegeneralist left his beer in the freezer again or is he just one miserable grumpy old bar steward 😁

True dat 🙂 Guilty as charged.
TheGeneralist is having to self isolate for 10 days as he went round to someone's house on Wednesday who has tested positive.
Missed going out to the Peak this weekend with wife and kid on his new bike.
Misses a practice session in Snowdonia next Saturday.
Kid misses his DoE next weekend.*
He's a grumpy shite today. 😉
*(None of which, of course, is remotely significant compared to what lots of people have gone through this last year. And for that I am eternally grateful)
Peace.
Switch to vodka, for two reasons.😃
