Finally got around to finishing off my new bike build. Have gone from a bike with carbon frame, 24mm tyres, rim brakes and 53/39 11/28 gearing to Aluminium frame, 28mm tubeless tyres, disc brakes and 50/34 11/32 gearing - should make life a little easier in the Peak District despite the extra weight. Just need to get out and ride it now!

Fantastic colour, bike looks great. How are you getting on the the gp5000s, mine are losing about 8psi per week but my Hutchinson fusions are only losing about 2psi

Very pretty. Not a big fan of Trek for political reasons but they do make some sweet bikes to tempt me.

Have just ridden home on it. It's lovely and I was 8 mins faster than any previous commute (despite feeling like shit), some of which were on a shorter route! (I have only had this commute since last September though)

How are you getting on the the gp5000s,

Tyres were nice. No idea how much pressure they'll lose over time and don't really care, I tend to pump tyres up every time I ride.

Whatever the reason for this, i doubt the bike was responsible ! given the fastest aero bikes give about a 10 second advantage over 20 miles you must have been pedalling a bit harder.

Some bikes make you pedal harder.

I'm interested to know how you get on with the GP5000 tyres too. I have Maxxis Highroad at the moment which are very good, but not tubeless.

Well they went up straight away with a normal track pump and held air without sealant which is a good start. They're grippy and a 31kph average on the way to work this morning when I'm generally pretty pleased with 26kph suggests that they're not sluggish. Quite pleased that they measure up as a true 28mm as I'm pretty sure GP4000 in a 28mm wouldn't have fitted.

Really? Have you a source for that?

I run a skinny build (7kg ish) Emonda ALR caliper alongside my Shand, as a more speedy commuter and for when I feel the need for speed... but my goodness the brakes are pants in the wet and I really don't like it when descending on less than perfect roads. I ride downhill like a pansy anyway, but Strava tells me that I'm typically 10-20% faster uphill on the Emonda, but consistently faster downhill on the Shand with its 28s and discs.

Anyway, that's a long way of saying that a disc-braked Emonda sounds ace!

It is! When a dick in a Merc gunned it past me at the top of a twisty descent yesterday I felt perfectly safe at 50+ kph a few feet off his boot all of the way down, even when he slammed on for a car coming the other way 🙂
