Ok new stumpy with a few hundred miles under its belt.
Headset creaking like a bastard today on really rough stuff. Tried nipping it up but it was still there. Greased it once home and it's fine.
But my thinking is it's an integral headset. Surely it shouldn't creak at all? Bearings are fine.
Few hundred miles before a creak.
Think yourself lucky.
Mrs stus new stumpy only managed 1 1/2 rides before I had the strip and grease the whole rear end to stop a creak.
Pack it all with grease (bottom bearing particularly) and it should last a while.
Build quality has gone down hill for specialized over last few years
Dodgy paint jobs
Poor alignment
Downtubes cracking if you sneeze too close
Anyhow it's a fully integrated headset on that bike and due to the tolerances of having enough slack for the bearing to be pushed in but tight enough for it not to move can create some noise .
Grease will work but only for a few rides .
The stainless bearings just make a noise .get a lower bearing enduro black oxide and it will be silent .
Cover that lower end of the downtubes up with a rockguard.
Wynch bearings is who you need btw for them and don't forget the integrated bearings have a different chamfer to a std tapered bearing
Just greased the cups and its gone.
My worry is cups are too big.else it wouldn't creak. Thought you should be pressing them in
They should be a tight fit but still be able to pushed in by hand .if they don't sit in the headtube of there own accord then there is a small to slim chance someone has fitted the wrong bearings .if it was a frame build the shop could of fitted the wrong bearings.
