So is that bit really a very bad guard for the chainring?

Very early contender for thread of the year. Top bombing OP, (and magneto dog, (what's his real name?))

David's 110 and 130mm measurements are for road bike chainsets and your new bike looks like a mountain bike. MTB chainsets always used to be 104mm BCD, as per the holes in your funny black thing. Although this standard has probably changed recently. So I'm guessing it is a chainguard of some kind, but probably not for the chainset on your bike.

Great thread, made me chuckle and feel really sad at the same time, we lost our 13 year old Lab last year (I was actually out at the Mega when she went so never got to say goodbye) she was always good for doing stuff like this with, would let you do anything stupid with her and not bat an eyelid
I think I may need to get a new Lab now

You need to market a small magnetic black labrador model that we can use for all our small metal parts when working on bikes. And supply it with a mysterious disc that baffles!!.

TBH I'm not really a dog person but this thread has made me laugh/feel happier.
A great combination of your humour & your dogs "hangdog" expression at your fitting him up.

Have a great big man hug from me for helping me through the week

Cannyj, you need to "copy image URL ", either by right clicking on image of on PC or holding image if on phone.

Once you've got that image URL/address, click 'img' button (just above the blank space where you normally write your post), delete the "http", past in the copied address and then 'send post' as normal.
