An ongoing issue.. trek carbon bb95 frame previous creak was bb based had to refit alloy shell with epoxy structural glue then token bb all ok till A few weeks ago creaking again nds bearing felt notchy so new token bb fitted still ****ing creaking so sat stationary on bike push down on either crank .. creak
Any ideas to help .. loctite new bb? Tighten up token? Can’t ride with mrs g till fixed, every cloud I ‘spose
Bottom bracket fixed in with epoxy and creaky bearings being chewed? Sounds familiar
Might not even be the BB.
Remove cranks, chainring, clean and copper grease chainring bolts, refit, see if that helps.
Thanks for that heard about the guy not viewed any before don’t think I’ll bother again! Poss down to diy incompetence but alloy cup came out of frame last bb swap so refitted and epoxied back in fitted new token in then all ok Up to this last month so nds bearing lasted approximately 2months just fitted new token but creak back just loadin cranks sat on bike anyhow need some useful ideas to check out please
Can you load the cranks whilst NOT sat on the bike, to eliminate saddle creak?
@belugabob just tried that still creaking ride round block out of saddle still creak it’s doing.my.head.in now will refit bb next and install with some loctite
Take chain off and check it's still creaking from the crank. I was convinced my BB was creaking recently. Turned out it was the lower pivot of my mech. Also press on the crank arms, not the pedals, to check it's not pedal related.
I can't figure out what the original fix was (glue a BB into the shell??), but a decent trek dealer will probably have the equipment to fix the BB shell in-house if it is indeed the shell that is the issue. I've done one and while in theory a bit of a scary procedure, in reality I think it'd be pretty hard to eff it up as long as the instructions are followed correctly.
Is that clown Hambini still around?
I've had a creaking bb. After taking it apart and cleaning it, making sure it's tight the creak goes away.
Ok for the sake of clarity,
2015 bike on its 3or 4 th bb all replaced by trek dealer no probs last bb started creaking so decided to try token 2part bb took old bearings out nds was a bit siezed in and the alloy cup came out with it finally got brg out cleaned up cup and epoxied it back in fitted token all ok and NO CREAKING 👍 so now trying to replace token but struggling to seat it fully and square any tips welcome thanks for the info replies so far
going to go LBS route now🤯
It is creaking, as something is loose.
I presume it has a thread on at least one side?
Has the thread been chased, and faced?
Is it properly tight - it is difficult to get it tight without the proper tools.
If something is held in with epoxy, it is very rare for it to be held really tight, so start there, they really shouldnt need epoxy to keep things tight.
Having 3 or 4 BB's in such a time is not normal, something is going wrong, most probably the 2 cups/bearings at each end are not aligned. This will wear them out quickly, and cause creaking.
As posted by others I recently fitted a new BB, within 50 meters the creaking started, drove me mad for 45 miles
Long story short the creaking was coming from the freehub outer bearing in my HP4s!
I’m ocd and can’t abide a creaking bike. How anyone can ride with that noise and still enjoy a ride is beyond me!
I’d advise process of elimination. If it’s not the seat clamp/tube then move onto the drive train. I found out it was my FH bearing by swapping the rear wheel over from my other bike and hey presto no creak!
evening all, no progress today but a few points, @alanl nothing faced or chased as push fit BB95 everything was torqued up cannot get new token ninja fully home and seated tried grease, loctite heat to bb cups cold to bb fitting, poss manufacture tolerance issues as black coating scraped a bit! going to try trek dealer at weekend !
I had a creaking Inbred steel frame. I made a chasing tool by cutting slots into an old BB. Works a treat and cleared out all the gunk from the threads. No more creaking.

You've probably tried by accident given the above but have you rotated the new BB or tried it the other way round (not sure if they have a specific drive side on token bb95 or not)
Will the old one go back in with the new bearing in it? Likelihood is when you've epoxyed you've not done it straight but rather to that particular BB.
Also given the bb90/5 normally just seats directly into the frame your token bb probably has rubbish bearings in in order to also fit the cups into the same space (see also 30mm bbs).
If you still have the old bearings I'd be tempted to put them in then try the crank through those and see if it aligns OK. If it does I'd (personally) go back to the bearings onto frame solution and use sensibly sized bearings.
