Mmmm mabie and dalbeattie PDFs have been moved too.

£2 for a reusable laminated map is pretty good value as long as you can get hold of them.

Having given away a few maps recently due to lack of stock in the shops I can tell you that there is a definite point to them.
I always carry one even though I have been riding most of the forests since before 7Stanes and there are riders out there with absolutely no sense of direction(sense) 🙄

After the last time I posted I did an unofficial poll whilst out riding and for the people who were on holiday/day visitor/beginner they all said that a decent quality map would be good to keep for when they wanted to return or show friends and chat over.

And yes there will be lots like you GW, this is the all knowing STW after all............................

I think its a shame you have gone down the waterproof route after alot of people said it was a bad idea (ok I know STW is representative of all mtb'ing)

Can you still get the free paper ones and the pdf online?

The point is to make money. Perfectly good free maps were already available.

Great idea! No more soggy paper mache in the pocket. Only STW could complain about cheap waterproof small maps 😆

Are you so dim you can't think of any way to keep an a4 sized bit of paper dry?

Are you so dim you can't think that maybe that approach isn't economically or ecologically sustainable?

You can still download and print the maps though, you just need to sign up as a friend.

Glad we did carry a map, even though blindly following the (very well) signposted trail. Bit of a bummer coming across a trail closure half way round the red that was not indicated at the start, nor mentioned on the website, etc. and with no obvious diversion/shortcut (for a non-local).

PDFs handy for planning. The A4 handouts were OK but only really last the day (longer than printing the PDFs on standard paper). I'd pay a quid or 2 for decent folding map that's gonna last.

PS you can get the PDFs c/o google without signing up 😉 although they may not be the very latest version.

Hi folks,

You may have seen me post on another thread about these maps a wee while ago and it's great that another thread has been started!

I'm the Development Executive of the 7stanes CIC, and managed the production of these new trail guides. Happy to answer any questions you have, and also would be really pleased to hear any more comments you have on them! It's great to see that your opinion of them has been generally positive so far though.

Was in the Shed earlier today and 3 out of 4 riders who came in asked for a map. The Shed is currently not stockist and chaps were a bit miffed.
If you plan to only visit Mabie I suggest you print your own from the website

They weren't free- just the FC paid for them, not the rider. No reason that should be the case.

You can still print your own of course.

Yes the new Trail Guides can be recycled...

The money goes to 2 places - a small profit for the retailers for selling them, and the rest goes to the 7stanes CIC (that's who I work for) and it is used to market and promote the trails. This includes maintaining and improving the website, having new leaflets designed/printed, the running of the online shop (when it goes live!), and loads more. The 7stanes CIC is a not-for-profit organisation so every penny we make goes back into the promotion of the stanes. We only having funding for just over a year, so we need to start generating income so we can continue what we are doing for a few years yet!
