Tempted by a pair of Hunt Trail Wide wheels to run some 2.6in tyres as my current rims are too wide and the Hope Enduro wheels I have are too narrow #firstworldproblems

They appear to get really good reviews but the DT Spline 1900 appear to be their biggest competition and are a similar price.

The DT have a slower engagement and I don’t know if that can be upgraded.

Both come taped with valves.

Any real world experience of either or good alternatives?

I just got a new set of Dt Swiss Ex511 on 350 hubs for £380 ish for Fitwheels.eu. Great service too.

Hunt are decent wheels but I'd go for DT Swiss all day long personally.

I have a pair of the DT Spline 1900, tried them out as a toe in the water for a 29r wheelset (had a 27+). I'm not a big weight, they have held up well, fully rigid though not much in the way of though trail riding. Thy seem fine for the money.

I think I needed to swap the bearings in the rear at least after a couple of years.

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago...

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/cheapish-wheelset-battle-hunt-vs-dt-swiss-round-1-fight/

I ended up getting some DT Swiss 29" XM481 rims on 350 boost hubs including the 36 tooth ratchet upgrade for about 380 quid from Fitwheels.

I had doubts at first but I contacted Lukasz at fitwheels and he was brilliant, the patience of a saint. I bombarded the poor sod with emails and questions. He built me exactly what I wanted and even threw in 10 spare spokes.

The wheels are great, arrived taped up and have been a massive improvement over my Specialized stock wheels.

They weighed in at about 100 grams more than the Hunt Trailwides.

Definitely worth getting in touch with Fitwheels to get a price.

@ogden, you mean the Cube OEM ones? Yeah, I didn't like the look of them so I asked for the standard XM481 rims with the normal decals.

I’d build EX511’s onto the Hope hubs in that case. Will be lighter and possibly stronger than your existing wheels.
