Bikes been shifting like ass for the last while since my cassette took a big rock pelter and my chains just gone and snapped, so.... what 1x11 cassettes do people recommend?

Am i right in thinking with my SRAM GX 1x11 derailluer can work with any 11 speed cassette? I seen box and E thirteen have some big range cogs out that look better. bigger the range the better i would say, thoughts??????

Has your rear hub wheel got an Xd driver as that will limit your choice somewhat,

I’m more than happy with my sunrace 11-46 mx8

If your current cassette is Sram 10-42, then you're stuff with that range unless you either swap the freehub body or look at something like a Garbaruk cassette or the e13.

First job is to remove the current cassette and see whether it's an xd driver or a normal "shimano" cassette fitting.

If XD you're limited to SRAM and (I think, maybe) a handful of others.

If Shimano, the you can look at Shimano, E13, SunRace.

I have a wide range 10speed Sunrace cassette and to be fair it's been as good as the SRAM and Shimano cassettes I have had in the past.

I assume you're going to change the chain and I would also check the mech and hanger are straight too.

As said above if its XD and you want to go to shimano you will need a new free wheel body which is around £60 I changed a 10/42 sram GX upto 12 speed the other day kepted the crank but changed everything else not to painfull cost wise cheaper than the free wheel body plus shimano.

SRAM GX, I bet you are on an XD freehub.... careful with the spline tool getting it off, make sure its well fitted into the cassette before trying to unscrew it.... if they are sticky on the freehub they can break the splines

Happy with the shifting and gear range pre rock/cassette interface scenario?
Y. Get another 11sp GX or go GX Eagle 12 spd and new cassette/mech/ shifter/chain. Keep the chainring

N. Change the XD hub to Shimano ( £60 ish) and get a cassette that will work with the 11spd mech

Simplest is another GX 11 cassette

TBF, if it’s the GX 11sp cassette, that thing is all steel and probably the toughest 11dpd cassette there is.  If you’ve smashed that with a rock strike imagine how much more damage you would have done to a part alloy cassette like all the alternatives.

If you want increased range, Eagle is an option but that’s a £300ish upgrade of cassette, shifter and deraileur which I would have said was probably more than you wanted to spend if that wasn’t the territory you’re in for e*13 TRS+ 9-46 cassettes.

TRS+ is XD fit if you want an alternative to SRAM.

XD is an open standard, the only real reason it wasn’t taken up more widely I think was Shimano insisting on doing their own thing as usual and several other manufacturers doing similar.

As for ‘cheap’ fixes, there’s nothing really much under £100 at which you can replace the XG-1150 cassette like for like or add £20 odd and some weight to replace the freehub too and buy Sunrace or XT.  Assuming Rovals allow freehub swaps...

thanks for all the advice guys, the more i thought the more i realised i never really had any complaints with the range of my gears so i think for the quickest and easiest fix im just going to fix another 11 speed SRAM cassette and just get the thing working properly again for now.

Maybe next rock strike ill jump on an upgrade

I could see the teeth had bent on the cog once it happened and a boy at the shop at AE forest (i think thats where it was) did what he could with it. The rear mech might also be damaged. ill see what the shop say when i pick it up tonight.
