If anyones interested click on the pic for slideshow. If not simply ignore*

No helmets were worn, no paths were eroded, in fact it really wasn't mountainbiking at all - apart from we were on a mountainbike tandem 🙂

Thats the first thing I thought - 'TJs grown his hair!' then 'TJs bought some new bike kit!'

I don't know what was more shocking

Highest point reached was about 250m lowest about -15m

Camping below sea level with the sea only 200m away really unsettled me - I did not like it at all.

I literally CANNOT understand why you have not bought some Ortlieb Action from us yet.

Perhaps if i offer to cut your hair if you buy some that will help? Colin can deal with the 'fashion' shorts...

Looks great, I don't think I'd sleep too well 15m beneath sea level either!

How long did that flooded section go on for? Were those cranes beside it?

Have you done anything in Norway TJ? I've got a hankering for some Norwegian touring on the racer but don't know anything about the place...

The flooded bit was a hundred yards - we had just dried our shoes out when we got to it. about 18" deep in the middle

Been To Norway on a motorbike many years ago. Not got much to add but I think you could do a good bike tour. Looked a bit like Scotland west coast.

13fm, I have a hankering for Sweden next year - and possibly a local to organise it...

Hmm... Next year is year of the trail building, I'm making plans for 2012!

TJ, how did you manage to tour across Holland and still maintain such an argumentative presence on here? Is this why you use the tandem, so you can be on erosion watch while Mrs TJ pedals? 😀

Surprisingly we don't argue on the tandem. Less than on too solos 'cos I don't leave her behind - and don't often dump her in the bushes 🙂

How are the front racks held on? Were there already some mounting points on the forks or was it a later addition?

Looks like a cross between Wells-next-the-sea and Ghent (Belgique).

Some nice pics there.

leffeboy the rack holds the panniers as part of the sprung mass - and is very sturdy. Tubus are expensive but you can see the quality.

"Camping below sea level with the sea only 200m away really unsettled me - I did not like it at all."

Anybody see Oil City Confidential? Wilco Johnson saying, about Canvey Island, "I was born below sea level" - big stare - "It affects the psyche".

Magic.

TJ - did you stick to the North Sea Coast route coming back down?

13thfloormonk
I think Norway would be great for bike touring, we were there just recently and a lot of the touristy guides had info about cycle touring routes - 200km+ routes not just your average tourist day trip. Likely to involve lots of ferries though which could get expensive, but there are very generous wild camping laws so you can save there.

There's some info on routes here
http://www.bike-norway.com/sykkelruter.asp?lang=eng
One involves this stretch of coastline which is amazing

TJ

Could you give me your considered opinion on the Carradice rear panniers as I'm thinking of getting some soon

Regards

ebygomm - we made our own route up - went further inland and rode down the issel river - there are markers and route maps everywhere for local routes and yo just add bits of those togther

Plumber - very big, ( much bigger than ortleibs) very waterproof, zip on pocket is a fiddle and looks potentially weak. strap arrangement very good allowing you to strap stuff on top securely. Fixings a bit of a fidddle to use but very secure. Won't pack well unless fairly full. If they weren't cheaper than ortleibs I wouldn't recomend them - but at the price they are great.

E mail me if you want some pics
