Have my eyes on the Conti Mountainking's. Anything else I should look at? They'll be used for riding around the pentlands (and the road from central Edinburgh to there). But ultimately i'm much more interested in decent grip than rolling resistance cycling there. Black Chilli seems ideal?

Previously had some rocket ron's (did the job, it's not like i'm probably all that fussy anyway) and fancy a change, but i've no real experience with much else tbh...

Convince me!

I like the Challenge Grifo Pro's if you're after clinchers? They're about the best I've found without going to tubs (which I am doing this season for racing)

No way an expert at all but I fitted Panaracer Cindercross as replacements for the oe roadish tyres on my new bike. Been very impressed with them and they seem to roll quite well compared to a road tyre, caveat there has been not much mud about atm

The 32 section Conti's are a lot thinner than the Rocket Ron's have CycloX King and they are rapid the black chilli compound is great.

Indeed i'm after clinchers. I'm not worried about them being legal at all, although I know Conti's are. Seen the Tracers, don't think i'm a fan, but they are half the price (half as good?) almost of what i'm looking at! Cindercross is a possibility! Although after all this I might stick to the Rons or maybe Ralphs! Hmmmmm

Challenge Griffo open tubulars. Superb ride & mount on clincher rims.

I'll second what Benji said about the black chili contis-the racesport version. Reckon I've knocked 10secs off my practise lap times (only 3k's) but there's so much more grip. Only issue is that the conti sidewalls are known as being really thin-so from experience setting them up as tubeless is a PITA. Bit draggy on the Tarmac, but I'm yet to find a tyre great at both.

I'm a big fan of the Vitoria XG - works well tubeless (non tnt version) and loads of grip, seems quite a tough carcass too - only torn it once, and that was in an area where we regularly split/cut mtb tyres!

I like Smart Sam's in 700x35. A CX pal used to use them at pre-facelift Swinley (think deep mud and wet roots)and never had much problem with grip.

big fan of the Clements tyres.

PDX best clincher for mud IMO

MPX is a good all rounder - like a griffo - maybe a little more aggressive.

nice and supple - 33mm wide

used to run mich mud 2's and challenge griffo clinchers.

another vote for the tracer pros, found them slightly quicker than grifos.

Used them last season to good effect and havent been out ofhtetop 5 inthe local summer series.
